Guest Laura T Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Hey, I'm new to this so i hope i'm doing the right thing! I am going over to Oz (TAZ) in august on a working holiday visa and then applying for a defacto visa when i get there. I am currently an NQT just finishing that year so come July i wil be fully qualified over here. A 3 year BA(hons) Primary teaching. I think i have come to terms with the fact that this won't be accepted over in OZ unless i undertake a further year of study. What are my chances of getting a job in a Nursary, Pre school or as a teaching assistant ? Or any other setting that involves children with the qualification i have. My degree is in Primary but my class i teach at the moment are mixed reception/year 1 and i have worked in a pre school before. As far as the one year more of study goes what are my options? I really want to specialise in Autism so is there a course i could complete part time whilst working where i could do this to then give me that year that i require? Please help as i just want to know what my options are!! Thanks! =) Laura
Daffod1lly Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Hi Laura and welcome ... Can't offer much help I'm afraid .... but I'm responding in the hope that I can bump this up for others to see. The states here differ greatly in their requirements so it would be best to try googling education requirements within Taz. One thing I would say - through my own experience as I am currently doing battle with the Queensland College of Teachers - is the ability to be open-minded and flexible in employment would be a huge benefit. You sound really sensible in that you would take any role in order to get you started .... even if you have to do this, it will be much easier to find out the correct info when you are here and working. Good luck - and hopefully someone will come along and offer you more help soon.

I emailed the TAZ teaching board and they require 4 years so i'm just hoping that they can assist me in finding a course to add to my qualifications and not just re do what i have done!! I am so excited about going tho so i'm pretty sure it will just add to the adventure =) x

But if you have not opted for any course yet then just check the following links. http://www.meredith.edu/autism/students.htm http://www.arcadia.edu/academic/default.aspx?id=23764
