Guest taran Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 HI all I am new to this site and have found it very useful to read on different posts. I am registered physio in U.K and work and live in west london. I needed some guidance on how to start skills assessment for general skilled migration. Also wanted to know which IELTS do I need to do General or Academic? Any advise will be helpful. Thanks for your time guys.:notworthy:
Guest Louey Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Hi Taran I am a UK qualified physio living in the Gold Coast I have not completed my Oz registration and am not sure I will it's rather complicated to say the least. You need to look on the Australian Physiotherapy Council website. I will try and sum it up for you though....there are 3 stages: 1. Send off all paperwork to check your degree fulfills the criteria approx $1,000 2. Sit the written exam which is in March and September and can be done in the UK $1,000 3. Pass 3 practical exams in MSK, Neuro and Cardio-Respiratory can only be done in Australia and they recommend you do some job shadowing over here before you sit them $1,000 per practical so $3,000 in total there. I don't think you have to sit IELTS if you first language is English and your degree was taught in English but you could check that on the APC website. I am currently working as a Physio Assistnat over here and may continue to do so. I am fortunate that my OH earns a decent salary, you would struugle to live solely on a Physio Assistant wage here. Hope this helps
Guest taran Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Thanks for the reply and guidance. I am intending to take general skilled migration route to enter the country. To gain 60 points of physiotherapy I would need to get my skills assessed even before I Reach the practical exams stage. I work as manual handling advisor in London and would be interested in injury management role in australia. Do u think that I can practice as injury management specialist without registration?
Guest Louey Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Sorry don't know the answer to that one I am afraid. The best bet would be to find some companies that employ injury managment specialists and ask them. You could look on SEEK which is a good Aussie Job website and see if there are any jobs with selection criteria attached that might help.
Guest siamsusie Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 A warm welcome Taran to PIO. I cant answer your questions for you, but I sure one of the members will be able to help you out. Susie x
