Hi

My name is deb and my family and I would love to move to melbourne. I am a midwife in the UK and my husband is a self employed music teacher with his own business. We would love to hear from anyone who has made the move to melbourne. We have 3 children coming with us aged 3,9 and 17. The eldest is 20 and wants to finnish his nurse training before he comes over. I have a few questions if anyone can answer them......

  1. how long does it take to get an APHRA registration - all my documents have been certified just need to send them off
  2. would like to come on an 457 visa at first as only have 115 points and really do not want to wait - does anyone know if any hospitals would sponser me in victoria
  3. will be renting in victoria first - how easy is it to find a long term rental property
  4. love the mornington penninsula area - any info???

sorry for the questions just have loads of them and am so excited !!!

Welcome to the site I think that nurses seem to be processed quite quickly as there is a shortage of skilled nurses here.

I live on the Mornington Peninsula along with many other Brits and there is a lot of information in the Victoria forum and more particularly the suburbs sub forum.

Mornington, Mount Martha, Mount Eliza, Frankston South, Somerville, Tyabb etc all areas.

Thehttp://www.southernhealth.org.au/ Mornington Peninsula is positioned between two bays Port Phillip Bay and Westernport Bay and the Port Phillip side is more densely populated than the Westernport side where I live. We have a train link on the Westernport side but its buses only on the Port Phillip side.

Frankston Hospital is usually looking for midwives and nurses and they just upgraded the maternity area of the hospital.

http://www.southernhealth.org.au/ is the web site for the area and will give you all the information you need.

Some of the Private Hospitals also need nursing staff and you might look at Peninsula Private Hospital, Beleura Hospital and The Bays at Mornington.

Good luck
