Horses & Beachside Living

Hi,

 

We are looking at moving to areas like Cheltenham, Armadale and Mentone. We have a daughter hopefully going to college in Epping and do not want her to have to commute a great distance.

 

Can anyone please tell me if within these areas it is possible to buy a house not too far from the coast (10 mins) but also get one with land as she is horse mad.

 

If not can anyone recommend some good areas not too far from the CBD as OH will also need to commute.

No, is the answer, Armadale is an inner suburb with lots of town houses, apartments and very expensive housing, Cheltenham is a middle suburb predominantly with housing, Mentone is the same. Epping is miles away from these suburbs and not a commute that a child would want to make every day.

 

If you lived out Epping way then you may be able to get a house with land but you would need to look around the area on google. Such areas as South Morang.

 

To get a property with land for a horse near the beach you would need to look at the Mornington Peninsula and property there big enough to have a horse would be in the area of a million dollars plus. A lot of people choose to have their horses on agistment but of course you need to live handy as you have to look after the horse.

 

If you went west of the city you could look at the City of Geelong and areas around Geelong as there are larger blocks of land there as well.

 

To live with a horse and work in the city of Melbourne you are looking at a commute of one to one and a half hours each way.

 

The Westernport side of the Peninsula is a horsey area as are areas around Cranbourne, Berwick, Beaconsfield these areas are commutable to the beach if you wanted to go for the day.

 

Horses are not allowed on the beaches save for the race horses which they take down to areas like Balnarring at dawn to have a swim.

 

Mornington is also a nice place to live and you would have access to pony clubs etc from there.

 

As an after thought perhaps it would be better to look at schools where you would like to live as travel is really not an option.
