Guest mml007 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Hi I am starting to apply for a 175 Visa and will be applying to get my skills assessed by the CPA over the next month or so. I need to sit my IELTS and contacted my local centre for dates but I am uncertain which module I need to apply for. Please could someone confirm whether I need to sit the Academic or General Training module? Many thanks
thewaltons Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 hi it all depends on what its for if its for the points then its just the general
Jimm Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Go for general testing as it is a bit easier then academic one. You have more chances scoring high for immigration.
TheRammo Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Just to confirm, it depends on the skills assessor's needs. I'm an accountant over here on a 457 going through my PR application at the moment and I have to do my IELTS Academic in 2 weeks. Check the CPA website, but I doubt they'll take General, to be honest.
Bpremji Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 If you want to pass the CPA skills assessment you will have to take the Academic Test and score 7 or more in each of the 4 bands. Hope that helps Extract taken from : http://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/cpa-site/hs.xsl/become-how-migration.html To meet the English proficiency requirement you must have: an IELTS academic test report form is required showing a band score of at least seven (7) on each of the four (4) components – speaking, reading, listening and writing HiI am starting to apply for a 175 Visa and will be applying to get my skills assessed by the CPA over the next month or so. mevans12 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I did my CPA skills assessment a few months ago, but had to complete the IELTS Academic test before I could do so.

Sorry about my little out burst, but im quite annoyed :arghh::arghh::arghh: You are not the first person to take migration advice from people who had no idea what they were talking about. Over the years I have had several clients who took incorrect advice from IELTS test centres (and others) and then argued the point; endlessly. It could be worse, you might have been a professor of English from Oxbridge demonstrating that s/he had a grasp of English - Do I have to sit the academic module? Look on the bright side, you have had practice for the real test.

Sorry about my little out burst, but im quite annoyed :arghh::arghh::arghh: From the hell that has been simply trying to take the IELTS at my nearest centre, the words 'up' 'brewery' and 'couldn't' spring to mind amongst others, so them being able to give correct advice as to anything, let alone which test to take, seems hugely unlikely imho - really stress to anyone to ignore anything the IELTS test centre say, speak to IELTS central instead, and try and speak to someone at the place you are sitting that isn't from the IELTS dept (for eg, my test centre was a college - the only helpful info. I got about anything was from other people at the college, certainly not the IELTS dept). I'm sure some of them are fine, but the complete and utter sham that I saw, really wouldn't trust any of them ever again.
wrussell Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Nobody picked me up. Y'all deserve to fail IELTS. BTW I believe the saying is - He couldn't get a firetruck in a house of ill repute if he had a handful of $100 bills. Trust me, I'm a migration agent.
peggsgreen Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 ah well ..... more time wasted , well get there one day
Olga Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I hope I've done the right thing! Since I do not need IELTS for skills assessment (I've got Australian qualifications), DIAC told me I can sit any test I like. And I took the general one ( honestly, cannot see much difference between them, but general was easier to book - more options in terms of dates and places available).
