Guest Checcles Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Does anyone know if there is a Highway Code for Western Australia? My daughter is heading for 17 and wants to start learning their rules and not bother with Britains.
Guest shusselmann Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Driving rules in each Australian state can differ slightly. In Western Australia the department of transport produce these drive safe rules: http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/LBU_DL_B_DriveSafeFull.pdf
Glad I Moved Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Leaving aside the increased probablity of hitting a kanagaroo, driving in WA or anywhere else in Australia isn't really that much different from driving in the UK. If you can't get hold of the Aussie version, the UK's highway code is an excellent source of 95% of the basic info needed for a learner to drive safely and be mindful of other road users. The only real difference will be learning different speed limits, thinking in kph rather than mph and recognising the slightly different traffic light sequences...not that all Aussies take much notice of this and frequently treat red lights as more of a suggestion than a command!
Ike Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Yes, the basics are all the same. There just seems to be a lack of respect and patience on the road compared to the UK, e.g. a lot wont think twice about undertaking you. Other than that its just differant road signs really.
Ike Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 This may help, its NSW highway code. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/downloads/road_users_handbook.pdf
