having secured my visa this week i am looking at booking my flights in the next couple of days....

...I've heard good things about Singapore airlines and also that i could get 40kg baggage if i have my visa stamp in my passport and contact them in advance (anyone done this?)

I've done the usual comparison site searches and manageing to get a flight sub £600 for aorund the middle of June flying from one of the London airports...

....just wondering what the key things to look out for and peoples experiences with this carrier? Also which Singapore aircraft does the upper deck (2 seats per ailse) seating for economy and anyone manage to pre book their seats through them

cheers

Congrats, What was the further info mate?

I doubt that you will get the extra baggage allowance as you are not emmigrating, you have a temporary visa. The extra baggage allowance on Singapore is for people with an unvalidated PR visa.

I read this in a post the other day..

This relates to Qantas ..http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/migrant-terms-and-conditions/gb/en, I am unsure if this would apply to you or not, but you could always give them a call. When you dont ask you dont get lol.

Post no 5 from Marta ...http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/112334-new-luggage-allowance-confusion.html .. she has managed to obtain 30kg from Singapore on a 457.

If you require a "preferred seat" on Singapore, I have just paid 30 GBP for each leg of the trip, so 60 pounds one way for one of our sons and this was very easy to do on line.

The menu was also easy to book on line as well.

Once you have a confirmed booking with your companion website, you should be able to call Singapore airlines direct (usually an Indian call centre) and put in a request for a seat. They are a fabulous airline , I use them constantly and they usually do their best to accomodate.

It is the A380... http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Singapore_Air/Singapore_Air_Airbus_A380.php

If it is the A380 you are wishing to travel both legs with, then perhaps check on http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/FlightInfo/ettQuery.jsp and see details on right hand side, this will tell you what stock they are flying.

Whatever you manage to obtain, may I suggest you keep a copy of the letter from your airline as proof for the checkin clerk.

Also check this thread out.

A few of us have managed to get extra baggage allowance on a 457 visa, just email them and ask them if they will do it as a good will gesture. I did and now have 30kg allowance each for the 4 of us.

Well worth a go!

I don't need to check anything out. It wasn't my question, I don't have a 457 visa and am already here.

I have learnt huge amounts from PIO. It didnt even cross my mind to enquire about extra baggage when booking my flight.

We too may be flying with Singapore (around october) but can't book until the Visa's are through.

My OH will be travelling before me so I will travel with DD - not sure if I need the added pressure of extra luggage though - so may contact Seven Seas and see what they can do.

Revs - did you email the airline directly to ask for the extra luggage?

I used this address:

UK_Reservations@Singaporeair.com.sg

And this was the response after a few days:

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that we have authorized an extra 10 kilos as a gesture of goodwill on your flights from London to Melbourne via Singapore for each passenger. This brings your checked baggage allowance to 30 kilos each, and your booking has been documented accordingly.

If you exceed the 30 kilos checked baggage, excess baggage charges will apply per kilo, and the current rate for London to Melbourne is SGD 80.00 per kilo, which is approximately GBP 39.20 per kilo (this currency conversion will be the conversion rate on your day of departure).

We are looking forward to welcoming you onboard.

By the way there is an underscore between the UK and Reservations in the address

Oh poop - I obviusly worded the email incorrectly - here is their reply::cry::em4600:

Please be advised that we do not have any separate baggage allowances for one way tickets.

However, since you are migrating to Australia for employment purposes (on one way tickets), may we request you to kindly write to us with your flight details and your e-ticket number after you have purchased your tickets, and we will then check if we are able to authorize an additional checked baggage allowance of 05 kilos (except for infants) for your Singapore Airlines' flights.

Help me Revs......!!! Helllllllpppppp meeeeeee!!!!!!
