Hi there, hopefully it will be the same for long haul flights but I have done several internal UK flights with my work tools and these includes stanley knives, hammers and crowbars among other dangerous items and all I have had to do is declare them at check in and they will then direct you to excess/outsize baggage (where skis and golf clubs etc would be passed through) and thats it really, not had any drama's the times I have done it.

I cannot guarantee this would be the same for a flight to Oz so hopefully someone will have a more recent experiance of this?!?!

Good luck

I dont think the tools themselves will be an issue if decalred, but I think the actual weight of the tools will make them so expensive to ship.

You will have a 40kg allowance which gets eaten up very quickly with other essentials when moving over. There are a number of threads regarding excess baggage shipping in the transport & shipping section. Have a look there maybe, or can you ship them ahead of leaving?

I hate it when on a plan and you have to sit next to a tool for x amount of hours

not good

Can you afford to post them and can someone do that for you when you arrive?

I think it cost us GBP200 including insurance to post 45kg with insurance up to GBP 1000 door to door within 5 days with parcelflight.co.uk.

We've done it three times (most recently last Christmas) and they've been very quick and certainly more reliable than AusPost.
