jono007jono Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Hi, just wondering whether anyone knows the best way to obtain employer sponsorship? My OH has applied for a few jobs but as soon as he tells them he's still in the UK they don't want to know and recommends contacting them when he's in Australia. Are there any agencies in Aus that could help that don't cost a fortune??
Guest spongebob Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Getting employer sponsorship in the Au is very very hard. BUT don't be put off. My hubby first of all wrote to every company in the whole of Australia that dealt with the kind of occupation he has but one or two replied but most either said contact them when in OZ or didn't reply. Then someone recommended Seek.com.au FAB we thought but personally we found this a bit of a waste of time cos they all asked for people who already were approved to work in the Au. So no help there. So what next? we'd written, we'd applied via seek then we decided to approach people we knew in the UK. We asked everyone if they knew anyone who knew anyone working in OZ in the engineering companies. Eventually we got lucky and word of mouth started and eventually we had a little worm on the hook so to speak. Then we wrote to these few companies and said we were coming out on a holiday and to ask around about the industry and managed to get some people to meet and greet with. Australian's like to meet people face to face that way they can find out the information they require. Its this way and probably only this way to secure a employer sponsorship in OZ which we managed to do and are now waiting to see if we are eligible for a visa. Hope this helps and don't give up. Talk to everyone you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck.:cute:
Guest can36 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Hi I am a civil engineer and had contacted various co's in oz to test the water re. employment opportunities to no avail. Best advice I can give is to attend an expo here in the UK and speak face to face with rep's from Oz companies - they are attending the expo's to recruit and promote!! I did this recently in Manchester, got speaking to a company and have now secured myself a job with 457 employer sponsored visa set to arrive in Oz july/aug!! Good luck!! (also - recommend careerstructure website if you are in engineering!)
jono007jono Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 Is 457 visa where you have to stay with your employer for 2 years? Can you get permanent residency after 2 years?
Guest tandcmum Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Is 457 visa where you have to stay with your employer for 2 years? Can you get permanent residency after 2 years? 457 is a temp business visa and can be anything up to 4 years and i think can be renewed after this time. It is a stand alone visa and not a pathway to permanenet residency, although depending on what occupation you are in and if it is on the wanted list (i have no idea what it is officially called as i get mixed up with all the SOL etc) then your employer may sponsor you for a ENS visa or you might be able to get a GSM visa
Guest nigeba65 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Hi, I sympathise with you, I am in the same situation. Trawling the internet to secure company details and then posting covering letter and CV. I also emailed where possible and then got up early to cold call them as a follow up. I did this dozens of times and nearly all said no. A few did say they would be interested if I was already over there. One seemed really keen but then never called me back. Since then I've been advised that the best option is to go out there with a view to securing as many interviews as possible. As someone else has mentioned Aussies like face-to-face but get scared off by the sponsorship idea. So, sell yourself at the interview but don't mention sponsorship until the end when hopefully they're really keen. Tell them it's just a case of signing some forms and that you will pay the costs. Good luck. nigeba65
jono007jono Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 It does seem an expensive and time consuming thing to do. Does anyone know if there are job agencies over there that could help? I know they'll probably want paying but my OH hasn't accrued enough holidays to go over there and try and get interviews.

Before we went we had signed up to 'nabthatjob'' web sight who deal with sponsored jobs. then several employment agents contacted us to send my oh cv. We explained we we coming out to job hunt and they throught it was an amazing idea. act now recruitment , then spoke to possible employers , and they approached the subject of sponsorship. within a week we had a job offer and then could relax and enjoy the beautiful oz sights. we plan to move out within 6/8 weeks. good luck. :jiggy::jiggy::jiggy:
jono007jono Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 That was good. So what visa type will you be going over on? Will you get PR at all? My OH is a cabinet maker.
janinewhiteley Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 That was good.So what visa type will you be going over on? Will you get PR at all? My OH is a cabinet maker. HI My OH is a solid plasterer. yes, we will be PR immediatley. we are going on ENS (employer nomination sponsor)121. If we had gone on a 457 visa. we felt it was to risky as my OH is 45 now and we have 2 children. We didnt want the risk of loosing sponsorship and not finding another employer to take us on and then bring the children back. Also on a 457 visa , you are not guaranteed to get PR after 2 yrs.
janinewhiteley Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 $5k...$2k to agent as oh needs exception as over 45 and $3k for visa

Alanlisa Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 My OH is a spark and we would like to look into the 121 visa, as we too wouldn't like to run the risk of having to find another sponsor or possible have to come home. We have 2 kids 6 & 9.5 months.
