Transporting motorcycle interstate

Some out of the box thinking needed....

I'm looking at moving a motorcycle from Perth to Tasmania, without spending shed loads of money..

The obvious thoughts are

1. Riding it myself, probably the cheapest way but nor sure I want to take that 4000 km journey on my own

2. Specialist company, they are quoting well over a thousand dollars

3. Train - they don't take them unless they are packed in a specialist crate.

Selling in Perth and purchasing in Tasmania is also not an option as I've only just got it so I would lose too much money.

So, any thoughts would be appreciated

We shipped our bikes over from Karratha to Tasmania, I cant give you a price because my husband's company paid for it.

My husband has ridden our bikes over to Tassie a couple of times alone but it is a fair old hike from northern WA, he generally went to Philip Island GP en masse which is prob safer!

In the last 9 months we transported our 4 x 4 from Karratha via Perth - Launceston and this cost us approx $1200 which I thought was excellent, so its hard to imagine your bike costing $1000 ex Perth but of course anything is possible!

Did you try http://www.motorbiketransport.com.au/

Economy depot to depot? rather than door to door!

http://www.backloadingremovals.com.au/backloading-services.php do interstate motorbike removals and you dont forget to barter where possible.

Failing that have you thought about advertising for another solo biker.. this is an oldie but gives you the general idea. http://www.australianexplorer.com/forum/lonely/234.htm

Hopefully some other members will come up with some ideas for you as well for eg Furkew based in Melbourne..http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/members/20662.html he is exceptionally helpful and also a biker.

Another link which could prove useful for contacts and information could be http://www.tasmanianmotorcycleclub.com.au/index.php/about-tmcc

Best wishes and I hope you enjoy your life in Tasmania.

Thanks for the kind comments Susie :wubclub:

I wouldnt have this dilemma. I would be on the bike and riding to Tassie  (probably the long way around)

I have seen these guys a couple of times on the net & might be worth getting a quote.

Because there are no specially made crates involved and they are doing the shipping themselves rather than through a third party it might work out better.

Perth to Melbourne for many freight companies should be reasonably cheap because nothing comes out of Perth

We ship flowers in pallet sized bins and pay $400 to get them there & $100 to get them back. Unfortunately they only do regrigerated shipping.

I do hope you manage to come to a good arrangement here, and do come back and let us know how you get on.

If you are riding over, I love reading blogs:wink:

Do you think I should ride to Perth, and act as a guide to bring them down south?

If so, can you tell the wife please , I'm sure she will be fine about it.

This could be Chimera for all we know Furkew, but we Dutch women are exceptionally broad minded and can make allowances for most things.

Happy riding!:biggrin::biggrin:

So the best quote is from Bikes Only, they want just over a thousand dollars, depot to depot, which I think is a good price.

Thanks for your assistance everyone[/quote
