Removal quotes on average?

Recommended Posts

Guest Helchops

We are looking at some removal quotes and was wondering how much on average should it cost to move from the uk to australia. We would not be taking our sofa and bed, however we would take our baby's crib. Other than that we would take some framed photos, ornaments and personal possessions.

What would people recommend doing, and how much could we be looking at paying?

If you contact all the removals companies they will come to your house and do a no obligation quote - we aren't going until next year, but have someone coming around in a few weeks to start giving us an idea (they were rather keen having gotten our details from an expo we went to).

We're going to get three quotes from each company - one for pretty much everything, one for an edited list and one for just a couple of boxes and two pieces of sentimental furniture, as we aren't 100% sure what we are taking yet (although it will probably be the just a couple of boxes and a chair and a side table option).

I believe its seems most people are saying their quotes are about £4-5K for a whole 20 ft container, which will fit in pretty much everything from a 3 bed house (well, everything you would want/can take), but you need to pay insurance on top of that at about 1.5 - 3% of the total value of everything (ie perhaps another couple of grand). But thats for everything - the companies we spoke to at the expo said it would probably be about £1K to take just some boxes, but obviously they were rather cagey and said it would depend - we will know more in a few weeks I guess when we get our first quote :)

Moved on a 179 PR visa Feb 2012; Citizenship granted Jan 2016. Settled in Adelaide. Loving it and feel like everyday is paradise compared to life in the UK.
