Out of the blue

Recommended Posts

So i stuck my profile and cv on seek.. with a view to begin testing the job market..

out of the blue i get asked if i would mind an employer looking at my cv..

yes ok.. says i

today i get a phone call from the employer.. can we have a phone interview..!

well blow me down..

totally out of the blue.. i wasnt even looking.

so.. long way to go yet.. havent got anywhere other than a chat

so if your offshore (i'm in NZ) it seems it is possible to get some interest.

cheers

i should mention that i am an NZ citizen as well.. so its not as straight forward a tale as i'm initially making it out to be

i havent done one of these in years.. so thats not something i am looking forward too

and as they have contacted me and done all the running.. i have had to do a bit more digging about the role etc..

it is an odd feeling.. its like they are head hunting me..rather than the usual scenario where you are chasing them.

but i will do my "5 things about you that are good " and the "5 things about you that are bad" etc.. got my book out on winning interviews etc

and i am currently in gainful employ with a few other irons in the fire.. so i guess the pressure is off..

but.. i hate interviews..

Only ever had 1 telephone interview, can't say I particularly enjoyed the experience. Although nothing was said, it was obvious I was put on speakerphone and there were several people present in the room where the interviewer was, which was a bit disconcerting.

Telephone interviews seem to be all the rage in Australia. I'm not sure why. I'm not keen on them myself, I had one in the UK before actually and I have had a couple here but really not too into it!

if you go to seek and register.. when you log in.. one of the options is for a profile

fill in the various boxes and you can reserve the right to let your cv be seen by prospective employers.

or you can let everyone see it straightaway.

I have had 4 requests.. 3 i said yes to.. and 1 interview so far.. and my profile has been up for a couple of weeks

I had a phone interview for my current organisation. I loved being able to do it in my pyjamas and feeling really comfy - also I tended to talk less (i can talk ALOT particularly when nervous) when I could not see the interviewers.

The downside was not being able to read their body language and having to actually tell the interviewers I had finished talking as they could not just pick it up. I also preferred it as if I did not get it they had never seen me and I would have felt better about that - but I did so not an issue!!

Good on you for getting headhunted and good luck!!

well.. i had the interview.. and it seems to have gone well.. not that you can really tell with these things.. unless you end the call tell them that you hope they rot in hell..!

in which case.. you might have a fair idea of how it went...:biglaugh:

so anyway.. its looking like an offer ( still pending, but it was discussed) of $110,000

that will probably not include super.. so about $100,000 after

for a family of 5 in Perth...

mmn.. i think it might be a bit light.. and we might just end up struggling on that.

well i will wait and see..

at this point i dont know.. it may be around 110K inc super.. or $110K plus super..

i'll just have to wait and see if there is a job offer.. and what that offer is

of course i'd like 120 and super...:biglaugh: and a car.. mobile phone, laptop..and a company house...and an audiance with all 3 Popes

just trying to work out the usual basics for the cost of living in perth.. for a family of 5.. and if a single wage around the 110k mark is going to provide enough for the basics without a struggle

so basically... how long is a piece of string
