Guest gem and si
Hi Everyone, I thought I would do my little bit by posting some information on this site regarding shipping costs ets....I have got so much information from POI...I thought it was time to see if I can help others in return. I looked long and hard into shipping as it can be a considerable cost. I decided to get the following company's out to quote my removals: Pickfords =£4000.00 PSS International =£2860.00 White & Company =£2685.00 Excess International =£2877.00 John Mason =£ 2650.00 Doree Boner =£2613.00 Crown Relocation =£3779.00 Anglo Pacific =£3999.00 I used the same speech for every company that came round to quote as I wanted the best overall quote and estimate on cubic feet. I specified that I would flat pack as much of my furniture as possible as this can save you tens if not hundreds of cubic feet in your removals. My first quote was from Pickfords who decided that I would need sole use of a 20ft container and that it would cost me 4k....I was a little surprised at first as i thought in my own mind that we would only need part, due to the fact we had no fridge or freezer and our main bedroom wardrobes were built in. I was in fact glad on the next quote that I had other companies to price, as PSS said I was only part container at 597 cubic feet.....This excercise went on for the next two weeks...as you can see from above list the cost varies a little and most companies were close on cubic feet except for Anglo Pacific & Pickfords. As a note 5 of the companies came in at 592 - 620 cubic feet of each other!!!! I decided to get the closest 4 to re-evaluate there costs to see if I could lower the price...three of them did...inbox me for details on those and prices...I can also send you an inventory of exactly what we are sending so you can gauge a price on your own belongings. I hope this is of use to anyone seeking removals!...if you require any further information drop me a line! All the best! Si:biggrin:

Guest michelledenham
Great post. We have 900cubic ft, nd have had 6 quotes ranging from £3650 to £4250. So there is a difference. I would love to hear how you got reduced quotes and by whom.
Guest gem and si
The only way to get them to reduce is to keep calling them and playing them of between each other to see who really wanted the business more....I noticed you get a few that throw in a wild price just to chance there luck..lol One thing to watch out for is that the one you decide to use...especially if its the lowest...is that they are close in cubic feet...you dont want them to remove your stuff then call you at a later date when they are packing the container and say its over the estimate as you will have to pay extra for the additional space. Cheers Si
Joker
Our quotes are all over the place at the moment because we've changed our mind and decided to take our car. Originally we had quotes based on between 1,441 and 1,600 cubic ft and no car. These ranged from £6k to £7k working out at a rate/cubic ft. of between £3.70 to £4.60. Having added in the car we have three quotes all in the region of £7.3k based on the car and the house contents (about 1,450 cubic ft.) in an FCL 40ft High Cube. I reckon that this can roughly be split £1,300 for the car and £4.13/cubic ft. for the contents. One quote is much more than the others so we'll probally not look at that. I'm just about to start negotiating so we'll see how much we can get them to move on these prices.
Guest gem and si
Hey Joker, Good luck and let the battle commence...keep your nerve as most can move there prices...as if they thought we would not want a discount..lol:biggrin: Si

Guest eminoz
Hi Si Any chance that you can PM the 4 firms that provided the revised quotes. Currently searching for the best deal for a full container to Sydney. Also do your quotes include full service door to door? Thanks in advance E
Guest Calstar
Hi Si, The quotes you detailed...is that everything included (insurances etc?) I don't think there's much difference in what you are looking to take, and what we are planning on. So very helpful post...thanks! Guest destinationoz
Thanks Si - very helpful - please can you PM the details as we're about to negotiate. The quotes I've had (if anyone finds useful) are all for a full 20ft container exc insurance - going to Canberra (which adds abt $500 to get there from Sydney) Crown - £5.5-6k Inc AQIS Anglo Pacific - £ 5 k Inc AQIS Pickfords - £as above but said would go way over a 20fter Doree Bonner - £4300 plus AQIS (about $450) + 8wk free storage in Aus John Mason - £4500 plus AQIS + 4wk free storage They seem loads more than your quotes Si??!! I'd better get negotiating! Cal.C.
Guest gem and si
Hi Cal, No they dont include insurance as I found that their insurances can work out expensive....There are companies that specialise in just insurance that can work out alot cheaper. Most of the removal companies insurance works out at 2.5% - 3.0% of the total value of your good which can be really expensive. I personally think you would be better of shopping around for that seperatly! So where you of to Cal? Si
Guest gem and si
Hi Cal.C, How much cubic feet did they calculate all your stuff to be?....Did you have much stuff that you could flat pack...this helped me alot...or means I shop in Ikea quite a bit..lol  I would definitley start negotiating with them as some of them can drop quite a bit depending how much they want the business...I know for a fact the John Mason would probably drop . Let me know how you get on! Si
Guest MissBehaving
Hi Gem and Si Thanks so much for your post - this certainly helps us as we are in the process of calling removal companies at the moment to get us to Mackay. Yours seem similar to our quotes for a full 20 ft container and also we had Pickfords as the only quote that said we would need to share a 40ft container, they found 400 cu ft more stuff than the other 3 companies. For us PSS and John Mason have both quoted £4000 to Brisbane, Crown and Pickfords wanted £5000.

Les Avalook
what date did you go and what part of Aus. Im looking at Central Scotland to Brisbaneregards Dave If the question is for me, we have not gone yet as we still have a house to sell. Our quotes are for Essex to Brisbane + 30 mile radius sole use 20ft container. We will use insureyourmove or Letton Percival for insurance, 1/2 the price for more cover. steen1976
Well done for posting that mate. Got all mine arranged. Slightly less at about 525 cubic feet but went with Crown at £2800. Also Crown's includes the AQIS fees. Though assume if AQIS need to clean/destroy anything then you would have to pay extra.
