Hi

In currently in the UK looking to move to The Gold Coast.

I have a Diploma in Specialist Suppot Teaching and Learning Level 3, and currently work as a Teaching Assistant in the Foundation stage, Primary.

I am also very interested in Studying to become a Hospital Play Specialist, there is a Degree you can take over here.

I have searched the web and can't seem to find any courses like this avalible in Australia.

Can anyone tell me if they know of any such course, maybe i'm searching in the wrong place.

Thanks

Angela

Hi Angela ....

While I can't offer you information on courses, I have been looking into play specialist positions myself within Queensland. I have a childcare diploma and have been considering my job options here myself. My friend - who is a paed nurse in a Queensland hospital - looked into this for me and told me that - in her experience here - play specialist positions are few and far between, as generally these workers are not valued as highly or recognised to the extent they are in the UK. She also said that much of the nursing attitude here is not as forward-thinking as it is in the UK. She did say though that some things are changing for the better but that it is generally a slow process. She believes the time will come when there will be many more play-specialists here but that this isn't the case at the moment. I would stress though that this is only one person's experience ... could you maybe google and contact hospitals direct to see if they generally recruit for such positions?
