The general impression I get is that most people seem to think it is unrealistic to live on anything below $150000 (for a family of 4, as an example). Is there anyone here on a salary of say $50000 and surviving? What type of occupations have these people who are earning $150k plus (one person's income not two)? I have a friend in Perth that tells me some things are cheaper and other things are far and away more expensive. Diesel is cheaper and they tell you everyday on local radio where the cheapest fuel is but supermarkets are more dear than over in the UK. Myself and partner are being sponsored for a job in construction and we will hopefully have a bit of income that will be disposable. But even 37k euro for a family of 4 is tough going in Oz I reckon .... if there were 2 salaries maybe that would be ok but it seems pretty low to me. You have to bare in mind that 50k after tax doing some quick head sums would be a take home of around ... 32k - = $2400 per month. Where I live in the Uk (South Wales) I know plenty of families who live on £22K or a bit less. I think it depends on the lifestyle you are use to. Even if you are an employee you can deduct a shed load of expenses, its more like the USA system. I have a good friend already over there, in the Army (so definitely an employee), he employs a tax specialist for about $100 a year and even claims this fee back against his tax!
