afternoon,

i have another querie for those in the know

our black russian terrier is insured with pet plan (thank goodness because he does have an ongoing condition that needs medication for the rest of his days)

those of you with pet insurance, did your policies transfer over to australia with you or did you have too find a new company out there?

thanks in advance

jen x ( & murphy the BRT)

Hi Jen,

I'd be really interested in this too. One of my cats fell lof the roof last year and now has a heart murmur so I know if I change policies (Allianz at the moment in Ireland) then that will be an existing condition. My Bernese is a specialist breed and her insurance is quite expensive and I'd rather not have a break in policies if at all possible. I doubt it though.

ask your insurance company!! sure you'd get a better repsonse than here...?

we have petplan over here and allianz but I dont know if you can transfer. A no claims bonus on a car is transferrable with a letter from your insurer so maybe that woudl work? We have out lab insured with prosure, we can claim 80% of all vet fees excluding annual chack ups of course, they've been great so far, we've claimed 4 times in 3 months! (lab - accident prone!)

Unfortunately as part of my previous job I dealt with Pet Plan Australia and they did not transfer policies over, it was a case of taking a new one out once you got here, this shouldn't be a problem unless you have an aged pet.

I would still be asking for a NCB though.

I have been out of the veterinary field for a few years now so it may have changed, give them a call and see what they say.

I was with Petplan over in the UK and one of my cats had an ongoing condition which meant i had to have antibiotics every couple of months for him. The answer to the question is no, the insurance is not transferable and Petplan will not offer continuation of the policy once you leave the UK. Yes they do offer Petplan over here but you have to take out a new policy and it wont be a continuation of the previous policy you held unfortunately which means that any existing conditions will not be covered :((

I have since been in contact with someone who in english but lives in a european country and i get my antibiotics sent over to OZ from her as I obviously know what i need and it saves me the vets consultation fee and their mark up on the medication. If you want any further information you will have to PM me on this.
