Guest leccyman
hi, when we started this process one of our son's was 10 therefore no chest x-ray needed. We finally did our medicals last week and were expecting to have to get a chest x-ray done for him as he is now 12. However, the doctor would not do it as he had had an email from DIAC from 14th Feb saying that if a child was under 11 at the initial application date then no chest x-ray is required even if they are now over 11 when asked for medicals. The doctor showed us the email from someone high up at DIAC which said they would be sending guidance to all CO's shortly. It seems our CO hasn't had this guidance because today we logged in to check our application and it says further medical requested for our son - aagh!:arghh: Has anyone else come across this? Eclipse
Hi leccyman This does not completely answer your question but my two daughters where under 11 when our visa application was sent in on 2008 but when we received our request for medicals in 2011 both my daughters had to have an x rays as one is now 11 and the other 12 years old. Guest leccyman
hi, thats what we thought, but the doctor said he wouldn't do it following this email he'd had on 14th Feb.
Eclipse
Maybe give DIAC a call or send an e mail with the letter you received from them. Good luck, hopefully you will not have the hassel of taking your son for an x ray. My kids hated it.
Guest smithys
Hi, This happened to us EXACTLY the same - our daughter was under 11 when we applied and was 12 by the time we had the meds. Our docs said she did not need an xray and showed us an example and a letter etc explaining, but after having all meds done the HOC dept in Oz asked for my daughters xray - arrgghh! So we had to have it done - they would not accept what had happened and said it was a requirement and we had no choice but to do it. So, another trip to the medical centre and more money and time wasted!! Good luck.
leemina
We've got our medicals today (manchester) and our agent had told us that my youngest (10 on application, 11 now) would need xray, so we've filled in the form etc. The thing is that on the online application status it doesnt state that xray needed for youngest. Hubbys just got off phone with agent, and apparently we still need xray for son, so were going for medicals soon...will update what happened when get back. If the health centre say it is not needed - go ahead and get it done regardless. Our med centre was sure we didn't need ours but we did. Good luck, hope all goes well x
Guest leccyman
thanks for replies. we had filled in our son's xray form all ready to get it done but the doc wouldn't do it. looks like a lack of communication between someone in DIAC saying to panel doctors that its not needed, but COs still requesting it. leemina
Back from medicals, all went well. Boys thought it was funny when they were asked to 'cough' :err: In regard to the xray, the radiographer initially refused to do it until the doctor had confirmed due to the new rules (as per email from immigration). When I spoke to the doctor he showed me the email he'd received. I explained that we'd spoken to agent and even though online status wasnt stating xray needed, agent still advised us to have it. Doctor advised that giving us the option as doesnt want us paying for xray thats not necessary, I explained that if it did come that we needed it, we would then have to organise another appointment (took 3 weeks for this one), and take son out of school (again), also another day off work as well as going to Manchester again, and i'd rather pay money and have his xray done, as really in the big immigration plan, £75 isnt a lot, and dont want any further delays. At the end the doctor agreed for xray, so youngest had it. Was more shocked about the £9.50 parking than the hundreds we paid for the medicals  I really think though that if the xray isnt necessary that the CO's and agents should be aware. More delays for people methinks.
