request for info on specifics on medicals

Recommended Posts

:wub:Could anyone give an accurate account of the process of their medical exam start to finish? I would like to know specifically what they examine and what they seem interested in? Many thanks to all you guys! Specifically do they test your reflexes (such as hammer on knee reflexes etc), do they look in your eyes/ears/throat etc?

Sorry to ask this but I have a really awful problem with being examined and would really appreciate an accurate account to prepare me.

Many thanks.

:arghh:

Hi, You may find that different docs do it slightly different, but basically mine went like this.

Called into room and sat next to doctor, answered a few simple questions had blood pressure taken, listened to my chest and heart sounds. then asked to go behind screen and strip to my underwear. Lifted and bent each leg, same with arms, had a prod and a poke at my abdomen. sat me up did the reflex test with a hammer and checked my eyes for signs of turning yellow. Got dressed and that was about all I had to do. Went into another room for Xray ( I did not have to give any blood for tests) gave a urine sample and it was finished. I waited longer to see the Doc than it took to do the medical

Thank you so much for this. Could you give any specifics with regards to the questions? Feel a little better. x

We were asked to give a urine specimen which the Dr. had tested before we went into the room. Some ladies have had a breast examination and some not. We had blood taken at our medicals.

The questions are specific to the medical form you've filled in. As soon as I sat down the Dr. mentioned my urine test ... it always shows blood and this is unexplained. I had taken with me a letter from a consultant urologist I had seen explainining what the problem was, what tests I'd had done and that there was no known cause and that it did not cause me any problems now and it was envisaged that it would not cause problems in the future.

Similarly, my son (who was 6 at the time) had undergone some renal investigations, again I had taken a letter from his consultant stating what investigations had been carried out and that there was no problem.

If you have had any illness that has required specialist attention or prolonged treatment from your GP take as much information with you as this will be submitted with your medical and can prevent them asking for more information (we didn't get asked to submit anything else at all).

We had our medicals in December. We had our urine checked and blood tests. Then we were called in for a chest xray. Then we went upstairs for the actual medical. I was asked to remove my top and my jeans (so in my bra and knickers). The doctor listened to my chest, checked my reflexes, had me answer some questions (I think to check my mental clarity) and checked my ears and throat. Got dressed and handed over the money and we were done.

We had ours in London (Kinghtsbridge) four of us, 2 adults, 1 over 15 and one 12.

We arrived and registered, was told we couldnt do E-Medical so had to provide 2 X passport photos, apparntly mine were the wrong size, so i went running around Harrods trying to find a photos shop, then rushed back.

We were all taken one by one into the X-Ray booth, on the way we were handed a platic cup and shown to the loo to fill it. Then, with our sample, into the X-Ray booth for a chest xray. Once this was done we had to sign the paperwork in front of her and she checked the X-Ray had come out OK.

Then back into the waiting room, the two girls, mum and daughter had to remove their top garments down to bra and put on an operating gown.

The wife was called, then me, both by seperate Doctors so i can only give 100% of how i did.

Sat down, shoes off, then onto the scales, next was height, then back to the seat.

Went through some basic questions, like mental disorders, depressions, any other serious medical conditions, then any serious operations (i had had surgery but not serious) so he asked what op i had but commented on it not being "serious" so as far as i am aware it wasnt mentioned.

I had done my research, so i knew what questions were coming and the difference between an A or a B on the medical (Question 45)

Next i had to read the eye sight sign (bottom line) foe each eye, then shown to the bed. Sat up while he listened to my chest (from the front) breathing in and out through the mouth, then again from the back.

Looked onto my mouth, ears then asked to ley down, legs straight.

He felt my stomach and abs area, asked me to cough then sat me up.

He took my blood pressure, but it was too high, 150 - 85. he put it down to me running looking for a photo so then took my blood sample.

During all of this as it was a monday after the 6 nations (i am english he was irish) we were talking about each others game and how we rated them.

I was aksed to sit back on the chair while he completed my paperwork.

I was asked to call in our son and watched him go through exactly to same with him. The Doctor completed our sons medical form and asked me to sign (i saw he had an A, his first A ever ).

The Dr then took my blood pressure again, it had dropped slightly to 142 - 80 he said its still slightly hig so recommended i get it checked over in 12 months time.

We spoke about my previous jobs and what work i am seeking once we get our visa. I was asked to sign my paperwork and noticed i too had an A.

OMG, we might just had made it through the medical.

10 mins later the two girls came out to dress, the wife said hers was the same but a more sever look at their bodies, including removing trousers to look at their legs with a reflex check.

We were told to ring back two days later to be told if our bloods and X-rays were ok and what the tracking number was on our postal delivery.

We had our medicals on a Monday afternoon, Found out Wednesday the xrays and bloods were ok and the parcel was collected Tuesday PM, on checking the parcel tracking DHL the meds were signed for in Sydney Friday morning.
