Phil & Vikki
We have a friend (honest it is and no us like most of the times), who we have passed their CV to some companies in Australia, in the hope that she will be able to secure a job and then move out from the UK. We have passed her CV on, but yesterday she said that she was done for drink driving last year and wondered if this would affect her possible chances of getting a visa. As far as we know or have been told, this is the only thing. Does anyone know if this would affect her chances as there would have to be a Police Check carried out? calNgary
Hi Im pretty sure she will be ok ,the only visa's i have heard of refused off police checks was ones that the applicant had completed a prison sentance. Cal x
_shel
If they went to Court it will appear on a police check but the likelyhood of it stopping them getting a visa is small unless they went to prison, did this all the time and had a string of similar convictions or lied on their application or landing cards to get in to Aus. Guest MeJulie
We had a similar dilema when applying for our skilled migration independent visa 175 last year, the form does say any conviction even if spent, and we decided to be totally honest and declare my husbands drink driving conviction (even though it was more than 10 years ago) and the police report came back with absolutely nothing on it (but that's further down the line) - but it is better to be honest, they are only interested in people involved in serious crime and those that have served time in prison! My advice is be honest and they should be fine. Good luck, Julie
Guest MeJulie
Also, forgot to say that serving time in prison also is not a definate no to visa, friend served one month in prison in middle east for drink driving and still got visa!

Life on easy street
I had a builder who did some work on my house in the U.K who had been convicted of drink driving And also got caught driving while banned, arrested for not appearing in court. And he managed to get visa in 2003 and is now working for a mining company in Queensland.
