Just downloaded the latest processing times

Looks like there was a massive backlog of WA SS applicants if they are only processing applications up to Dec 2008 (at least they are going to give out in date order and to dinosaurs first)

processing of applications for General Skilled Migration (GSM). This

information is updated fortnightly.

Please do not send enquiries or reply to this email address as this

mailbox is not monitored. Contact details for GSM are listed below.

Current Processing Dates

If your application date has recently come into our current processing

Processing Times

Estimated processing times for GSM visa applications can be found on our

website at:

Client Service Charter

Estimates of processing times that apply to different types of

applications are provided as a guide only. As processing times are

dependent on a range of factors, individual processing times may vary

considerably from the published estimates.

Factors that can impact on processing times include, but are not limited

to:

- completeness of application

- how quickly applicants respond to requests to provide documentation

- medical complications

- police checks

- checks with third parties to verify claims made in an application.

Contacting Us

Providing additional documents

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit supporting documentation

electronically. Providing scanned copies of documents reduces postal and

administrative delays in receiving and processing information.

GSM processing offices accept scanned copies of original documents

(non-certified) provided they are in colour. If you scan documents in

black and white, then they must be scanned copies of certified copies. The

valid file types for attaching documents are BMP, DOC, DOT, GIF, JPG, PDF,

RTF, TXT and XLS.

Information which will assist you in attaching documents to your

application or in emailing them to the department is available on the

department’s website at:

Attaching Documents to a General Skilled Migration Visa Application

Online applications

If you e-lodged this application you are strongly encouraged to attach all

the supporting documentation to the application in the web-browser. This

is the preferred procedure for providing supporting documents for an

e-lodged application.

If for any reason you cannot attach documents in the browser then you can

email the documents as scanned attachments to the following email

addresses:

Brisbane.gsm.documents@immi.gov.au - E-lodged VB 885, VB 886, VB 887, VC

485 and VC487

If you lodged a paper application you can still provide supporting

documentation electronically by emailing the documents as scanned

attachments to: adelaide.gsm.documents@immi.gov.au

When emailing documents to the department please quote your Transaction

Reference Number (TRN) or file reference number for this purpose.

Good grief! Will we EVER get a co??

We are Cat 2: WA State Spons on SMP.

We lodged our visa (176) in Oct'09..... If they are still considering 2008, how is it going to be possible to have processed all Cat 2's by the end of 2011, as detailed in the Client Service Charter??

I thought DIAC was cracking on with the visa processing, but possibly not?

Hi Guys. As per ASPC GSM Processing information they are processing December 2008 cases now. I have applied first as 175 Offshore in Jan 2009 and then applied for WA SS in July 2009 and got in Nov 2009 and moved to 176 Offshore Visa so in my case my processing month will be November 2009 or Jan 2009 according to GSM ASPC Processing information.

I think it will be interesting to see how quicky WA SMPs are allocated COs once DIAC are back to normal after the holidays ... we'll then be able to maybe 'guesti'mate how long it will take us all to get COs.

We are hoping everything goes through for us so that we can validate at Easter. Fingers crossed!!!!

Feeling very, very depressed after reading this post! I too thought we'd be on for a June 2011 ss visa! What worries me more now is come July we are back to square one not enough points with the recent changes for July 11. I'm seeing our six yrs hard work as well as the sheer determination to work at it plus it's our second attempt totally slipping away.:shocked::twitcy:

Hi there

i don't quite understand your disappointment...do you already have a 176 ap lodged...if so then the July 2011 changes won't affect you.

do you already have state sponsorship?

Hi Jo

that's the problem we submitted to WA our application on 21st but we have yet to find out what happens next.. I guess the next step is for WA to say yes (hopefully) we want you pay full $2.5k and we will process your application in due course... It would be great if the July 11 didn't affect us. Any news/advice/knowlegde would be great.

Ok so you haven't lodged an application with DIAC yet, just a SS application to WA on 21 Dec. therefore you are up against the clock to get the SS approval from WA before the 20 June so you can then lodge a 176 application with DIAC.

i know that WA were taking quite a while to process applications in the past but it might be different now there are fewer occuapations on their SMP. You could try contacting them to find out what their processing times are.

Might be worth speaking with an agent to get an initial assessment in case there are other options to get the visa lodged before July changes. i think in the past you could lodge with DIAC before getting the SS but i have a feeling you can no longer do that (i.e. switch visa type) without paying for a new application.

sounds like you have been waiting a long time already so i hope you get the WA SS soon and can lodge before the changes

good luck

If you get WA SS by July 2011 and have lodged with diac(that is where you would part with your $$$$) the changes won't affect you.

Nobody knows how long ss is gonna take. We waited quite a while but that was probably at the peak of things.

Another thing to bear in mind is that DIAC over the last few years have made many many changes. If someone would of told me I'd still be in the UK in 2011 after starting the process in 2008,I would of told them where to go!

This is how I see it:

Applications lodged before the following dates are currently being

considered by a case officer:

Priority 2 State Migration Plan*:

(* State migration Plan currently available for VIC, ACT, NT, QLD, Tas &

WA)

For applications with an occupation on the Western Australia State

Migration Plan the current allocation dates are as below -

Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) subclass 176

VE 176 (e-lodged): 12 November 2008

VE 176 (paper): 12 November 2008

Skilled – Sponsored (Residence) subclass 886:

VB 886 (e-lodged 24 December 2008

VB 886 (paper): 24 December 2008

Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) subclass 475

VF 475 (paper): 12 November 2008

Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) subclass 487

VC 487 (e-lodged 24 December 2008

VC 487 (paper): 24 December 2008

All other Priority 2 applications lodged on or before 13 December 2010

have been allocated.

If what this says is correct, they are very much up to date with cat 2 for all those sponsored by VIC, ACT, NT, QLD, and TAS.

The only Cat 2's left to be allocated are WA, SA and then once commenced NSW.

Seeing as WA SMP was only released on 17th Dec and bearing in mind the christmas break, where staffing levels at DIAC would probably have been virtually non-existent, I think they have done quite well. In 2 Whole Months (Nov and Dec) they have allocated pretty much the whole of the backlog from 5/8ths of the CAT2 pool, the remaining 3/8ths (if there is even distribution of quota between states that is) should be easily allocated by early March.

Just my 2 penneth worth but it looks optimistic to me:wubclub:

WA,SA and NSW are fairly large and fairly popular states. I think the allocation of COs will slow down quite dramatically. Were very lucky to have a CO so little waiting for us left now. They just need to speed up the visa grants to make more places for newer applicants.

Hi there

do you know (or is it on this site anywhere) how many cat 2s there are waiting in each state? i remember an agent once placed a post which showed how many visas each of the states could sponsor in the financial year...some of the smaller ones were just a few hundred and the larger ones had thousands.

if there are thousands of WA and SA cat 2s in the pipeline then it could take alot longer to clear their back log than the small numbers for ACT/Vic/NT/Tas.

if its going to take a long time for the cat 2s then it will be ages before any more cat 3s get a look in...and the poor Cat 4s are pushed back even further in their infinite timeline!!

PLLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSEEE let my SS come back approved very soon so i can move from 4 to 2:wideeyed:

Vickymel will know that! She's the sort of girl that knows that sort of info!

State Migration Plans and planning levels...

Unfortunately the Minister did not use his opportunity on Friday to announce the SMPs at the MIA National Conference, but some information about developments is now available.

The starting point is the table of planning levels at Migration Program Statistics - Statistics - Publications, Research & Statistics . There will be 61,700 general skilled migration visa grants in 2010/11. Of these, 23,000 are allocated to state sponsored migration and 35,200 to skilled independent applicants. A further 3,500 people are anticipated under the family sponsored stream.

Talking to states and DIAC people at the conference it seems that the 23,000 planning level on state sponsorship is effectively a cap, ie if they can't reach you in the current program year then it will need to be the next one, or the one after that. This will be made more complex by planning levels for particular occupations in particular state migration plans.

Anecdotally, some states are already highly oversubscribed even though the number of state sponsored visas available has increased dramatically. This may mean that a longer wait is involved for most of those seeking state sponsorship. There are of course already longer waits for everyone else and this form of management may at least allow some sort of orderly progression for all those who fit within DIAC priority groups 1, 2 and 3. Priority groups are explained at http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...-july-2010.pdf . For priority group 4, although there is an allocation under the GSM program for family sponsored cases, it's hard to see that the specified allocation will make much of an impact as there are as many as 40,000 applicants in this group.

On the timing of the GSMs it seems that 1 November is a popular choice but there are still those who expect it earlier. DIAC of course can't say anything on this.

More to come I hope.

Cheers,

George Lombard

WA announced that it has been allocated 6000 SS visa quota this year. Assuming all these are pure 176 cases (not 175 converted to 176) it does explain the backlog of cases at DIAC. However, I share the view that DIAC has moved fairly quickly in allocating COs for all the 5 States before WA (QLD is also a popular state) within 2 months & I'm optimistic that they could clear WA's backlog within 2 months too. We'll have a better idea of the processing rate when they update the status again. In the meantime, stay optimistic and cheerful that we are Cat. 2. At least things are moving fast for us compared to other categories. Hope they move fast and clear all cat 2 and then move on to Cat 3 & 4!

Cheers!

Someone has now posted the numbers, so with a total of 23,000 SMP places this year, and 6000 and 4890 going to WA and SA respectively, giving a total of 10890 (leaving 12110 spread between those other states already up to date and the NSW SMP places) and coupled with the fact NSW always has and probably still will have limited sponsorship list (so am guessing its going to be small), it looks like there may be around 1/2 or just over half of the years allocation spread between the remaining 3 states so I don't think I was far off with my previous guestimate.

Anyone have the numbers for the other 5 states so that we can make sure the sums are right.

As Libbysmum's point was good - in not much time they have allocated COs up to Dec 2008 (was it Sept 2007 that everyone waiting prior to was capped and ceased - so hopefully not too many waiting since 2008).

I've been thinking about it a bit and for the other states COs were given out to anyone whatever the date. Given that the COs are starting to get full desks now and WA is going to be a large number of SS applicants I am rather pleased that they are starting with the dinosaurs and will be going through by date.

Sorry to those lodging in 2011 - but I would like to see the COs concentrating on getting through the backlog of folks as we have SA and NSW to join us yet and their dinosaurs should also be given priority.

I imagine as several have suggested that now the new year is here and the WA files have been shuffled and COs back from holiday that we will see the WA COs allocated date move forward rapidly.

I don't think that any have announced how many were waiting.

However ACT did say that the people they had already granted SS to prior to the SMP pretty much took up their allocation for that year.

All the states prior to WA saw COs allocated to anyone who had SS whatever the application date. So HOPEFULLY that meant that they were all within their quota (otherwise there will be some unhappy people when the quota for 2010/11 hits and we have to wait until the next one opens in July).

Vickymel will know that! She's the sort of girl that knows that sort of info!

 Yup I'm a sad old number keeper.

There were a few figures - nothing about how many waiting - although I can remember some agents commenting a while back about the numbers that were suggested to be waiting.

I will try to find the numbers for each states quota though as I had some of them somewhere.

 Yup I'm a sad old number keeper.

There were a few figures - nothing about how many waiting - although I can remember some agents commenting a while back about the numbers that were suggested to be waiting.

I will try to find the numbers for each states quota though as I had some of them somewhere.
