If they are still considering 2008, how is it going to be possible to have processed all Cat 2's by the end of 2011, as detailed in the Client Service Charter?? I have applied first as 175 Offshore in Jan 2009 and then applied for WA SS in July 2009 and got in Nov 2009 and moved to 176 Offshore Visa so in my case my processing month will be November 2009 or Jan 2009 according to GSM ASPC Processing information. If they are still considering 2008, how is it going to be possible to have processed all Cat 2's by the end of 2011, as detailed in the Client Service Charter?? What worries me more now is come July we are back to square one not enough points with the recent changes for July 11. I guess the next step is for WA to say yes (hopefully) we want you pay full $2.5k and we will process your application in due course... It would be great if the July 11 didn't affect us. Jobo Posted January 5, 2011 Share Posted January 5, 2011 Ok so you haven't lodged an application with DIAC yet, just a SS application to WA on 21 Dec. therefore you are up against the clock to get the SS approval from WA before the 20 June so you can then lodge a 176 application with DIAC. i know that WA were taking quite a while to process applications in the past but it might be different now there are fewer occuapations on their SMP. You could try contacting them to find out what their processing times are. Might be worth speaking with an agent to get an initial assessment in case there are other options to get the visa lodged before July changes. i think in the past you could lodge with DIAC before getting the SS but i have a feeling you can no longer do that (i.e. switch visa type) without paying for a new application. sounds like you have been waiting a long time already so i hope you get the WA SS soon and can lodge before the changes good luck Jo Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nobody knows how long ss is gonna take. We waited quite a while but that was probably at the peak of things. Another thing to bear in mind is that DIAC over the last few years have made many many changes. Unfortunately the Minister did not use his opportunity on Friday to announce the SMPs at the MIA National Conference, but some information about developments is now available. The starting point is the table of planning levels at Migration Program Statistics - Statistics - Publications, Research & Statistics . There will be 61,700 general skilled migration visa grants in 2010/11. Of these, 23,000 are allocated to state sponsored migration and 35,200 to skilled independent applicants. A further 3,500 people are anticipated under the family sponsored stream. Talking to states and DIAC people at the conference it seems that the 23,000 planning level on state sponsorship is effectively a cap, ie if they can't reach you in the current program year then it will need to be the next one, or the one after that. This will be made more complex by planning levels for particular occupations in particular state migration plans. Anecdotally, some states are already highly oversubscribed even though the number of state sponsored visas available has increased dramatically. This may mean that a longer wait is involved for most of those seeking state sponsorship. There are of course already longer waits for everyone else and this form of management may at least allow some sort of orderly progression for all those who fit within DIAC priority groups 1, 2 and 3. Priority groups are explained at http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...-july-2010.pdf . For priority group 4, although there is an allocation under the GSM program for family sponsored cases, it's hard to see that the specified allocation will make much of an impact as there are as many as 40,000 applicants in this group. On the timing of the GSMs it seems that 1 November is a popular choice but there are still those who expect it earlier. DIAC of course can't say anything on this. More to come I hope. WA announced that it has been allocated 6000 SS visa quota this year. Assuming all these are pure 176 cases (not 175 converted to 176) it does explain the backlog of cases at DIAC. However, I share the view that DIAC has moved fairly quickly in allocating COs for all the 5 States before WA (QLD is also a popular state) within 2 months & I'm optimistic that they could clear WA's backlog within 2 months too. We'll have a better idea of the processing rate when they update the status again. In the meantime, stay optimistic and cheerful that we are Cat. 2. At least things are moving fast for us compared to other categories. Hope they move fast and clear all cat 2 and then move on to Cat 3 & 4! Someone has now posted the numbers, so with a total of 23,000 SMP places this year, and 6000 and 4890 going to WA and SA respectively, giving a total of 10890 (leaving 12110 spread between those other states already up to date and the NSW SMP places) and coupled with the fact NSW always has and probably still will have limited sponsorship list (so am guessing its going to be small), it looks like there may be around 1/2 or just over half of the years allocation spread between the remaining 3 states so I don't think I was far off with my previous guestimate. As Libbysmum's point was good - in not much time they have allocated COs up to Dec 2008 (was it Sept 2007 that everyone waiting prior to was capped and ceased - so hopefully not too many waiting since 2008). I've been thinking about it a bit and for the other states COs were given out to anyone whatever the date. Given that the COs are starting to get full desks now and WA is going to be a large number of SS applicants I am rather pleased that they are starting with the dinosaurs and will be going through by date. Sorry to those lodging in 2011 - but I would like to see the COs concentrating on getting through the backlog of folks as we have SA and NSW to join us yet and their dinosaurs should also be given priority. I imagine as several have suggested that now the new year is here and the WA files have been shuffled and COs back from holiday that we will see the WA COs allocated date move forward rapidly. However ACT did say that the people they had already granted SS to prior to the SMP pretty much took up their allocation for that year. All the states prior to WA saw COs allocated to anyone who had SS whatever the application date. So HOPEFULLY that meant that they were all within their quota (otherwise there will be some unhappy people when the quota for 2010/11 hits and we have to wait until the next one opens in July). Can't remember what the others were - anyone else know the others? Guest JK2510 Posted January 6, 2011 Share Posted January 6, 2011 As Libbysmum's point was good - in not much time they have allocated COs up to Dec 2008 (was it Sept 2007 that everyone waiting prior to was capped and ceased - so hopefully not too many waiting since 2008). I've been thinking about it a bit and for the other states COs were given out to anyone whatever the date. Given that the COs are starting to get full desks now and WA is going to be a large number of SS applicants I am rather pleased that they are starting with the dinosaurs and will be going through by date. Sorry to those lodging in 2011 - but I would like to see the COs concentrating on getting through the backlog of folks as we have SA and NSW to join us yet and their dinosaurs should also be given priority. I imagine as several have suggested that now the new year is here and the WA files have been shuffled and COs back from holiday that we will see the WA COs allocated date move forward rapidly. I don't think that any have announced how many were waiting. However ACT did say that the people they had already granted SS to prior to the SMP pretty much took up their allocation for that year. All the states prior to WA saw COs allocated to anyone who had SS whatever the application date. So HOPEFULLY that meant that they were all within their quota (otherwise there will be some unhappy people when the quota for 2010/11 hits and we have to wait until the next one opens in July). :laugh: Yup I'm a sad old number keeper. There were a few figures - nothing about how many waiting - although I can remember some agents commenting a while back about the numbers that were suggested to be waiting. I will try to find the numbers for each states quota though as I had some of them somewhere. Tania is an info keeper to :notworthy: . Well I'm off to NYC in a few hours!
