We will be moving to the Sunshine Coast (Buderim area) as soon as my spouse visa is applied for and received. My husband works for an oil company and is transferring to that area. Husband is originally from Sydney and I am from Norfolk, we have 3 children, 2 girls who will be 9 and 4 in May and then our boy who will be 7 in August. Would love to get in touch with anyone in that area or who are soon to be moving out like us.

Hiya

We are moving out middle of March this year (scary saying this year!!). I am moving with my Aussie partner and our two dogs from Brighton(UK).

Always up for friends of all ages!! (we are in our mid 40's)

Yes it sure is. I travelled lots before meeting my husband in Oz but we've been settled here in the UK for nearly 10 years now and I must admit it is very scary. Are you heading Noosa way?

Hi

In an ideal world yes we would be hitting Noosa!! If we win the lottery it would be Marcus Beach! However it is looking more like Caloundra way as there is a College there I could possibly teach in.

We both quite like Perigian Waters/Springs/Beach... or something like that!

We will settle whereever I can get a job!!!

Hi, We have travelled in a Motorhome which we hired for 44 days, we left the Gold Coast and travelled all the way to Uluru and on the way back we found ourselves in Perigian Beach Caravan park. The park was a bit dated and I'm told that it's due to be pulled down and rebuilt. The small square by the beach though is very modern and has some fantastic shops and restaurants/cafe's.

Cutting to the quick, we were perusing a real estates window when one of the agents came out and did his spiel about the area.

Seemingly there is an Estate not far from the Beach area ( the name escapes me) but he said that the house prices have just about bottomed out and that the area is known for staying stable for up to three years and then seems to leap up in 10% leaps. Now I'm not daft (although the Dragon will tell you otherwise) and it's easy to dismiss this as a serious sales pitch. However we had breakfast at a great continental style cafe' which served soft boiled eggs (in a glass would you believe?) and were chatting to a couple of locals who said that the area was very popular with Poms and I must admit it did have a very British feel about the place. They also said that the market was rather flat and that now would be a good time to buy. The houses we looked at in the window were pricing at around $750-800K But even the agent said they were actually selling for a lot less, $80K in one case. These were all 4 bedroom 2 bathroom with pools.

I could quite fancy the area myself but our son is in Northern Rivers which is too far away.

I hope this helps a little in your choice of area and good luck with the move in 2011.

We live in Buderim (down the bottom - not up the top with the posh people) and love it. Will you be renting or buying straight away?

Thanks Sids Dad.

We know the area you talk about, we liked it a lot. I have found the house I want to build, so just need the job to be able to afford it!!!

Would like to buy as soon as we get to know the area more, we have been a few times with the kids over the last 8 years but never thought about moving there, so hence never looked at particular areas. Any info would be great.

Hello, I am another Buderim fan and we are moving there in four months, our flights are booked. We have a little girl aged four.

Have you looked in to schools yet?

I am Heidi, hubby is Jonathan.

Hello Heidi,

We have not visited any of the schools and are thinking of maybe putting the kids in private school, Mathew Flinders or The Sunshine Coast Grammer. But thats only researching them online, we have also heard most good reports about Mountain Creek which we would also consider.

Hiya. We also have chosen these two schools. We have paid deposit to Matthew flinders and are now in the waiting pool, but I also have heard that the mountain school is good so might get Poppy into there. I guess we will have to see how things pan out for us.

Coolum lovely....seem to be fixed on Buderum. We are churning at moment about buying or renting. Bit of a toughie due to ex rate....might be going down rental route so will have to see what's available nearer time. Would not say no to Coolum.

Have you organised a place to stay when you get here?

We live within walking distance of Matthew Flinders School and it is lovely here.

There are not many rentals around this area at the moment. I think there are a couple of townhouses in Figbird Crescent (off Stringybark Road, near the Sunshine Coast Uni) if thats any use to anyone, just go to www.realestate.com and type in rental in Figbird Crescent Buderim.

Hope that helps someone

Good luck, should hopefully be okay though for your daughters age. Our trouble was with our daughter who will be 9 in May there was a long waiting list, so we've had to look at other alternatives.

We looked at so many state and private schools on the coast as we live near Coolum (on a six month rental). We have opted for private and Sunshine Coast Grammar was our favourite but St Andrews Anglican College at Peregian Springs is very impressive too. If you decided on Mountain Creek you would have to live in catchment. We looked there because they do the International Baccalaureate option.

Good luck with your move!!!

Hi, I know it's been some years since you posted this on pomsinoz about moving to Buderim but I thought I would drop you a line. We are hoping to move out in May this year. We have our visas, just got to finalise sale on house. We liked Buderim after visiting there twice, August 2008 and August 2010. Spent ages driving round Sunshine Coast and Brisbane and Gold Coast but just kept coming back there. Got kids registered in Buderim Mountain school and Matthew Flinders. We are currently in Bucks but can't wait to swap the fields for beaches! Kids can't wait either. Got son of 11, Tommy and triplets aged 4 which consist of boy, Travis, and twin girls, Darcie & Paige. Expensive having 4 kids so need to know the best places to shop for clothes & food. Found some things rather more expensive when we were there last. Where are you know? Love to chat.... DAWN & ROY.

Hi. We live at peregian beach and LOVE it. We moved here ten years ago this may from the uk. My partner is Scottish and, although I am Australian I had been living in the uk for 15 years. We certainly dont regret moving here where we have a lovely relaxed lifestyle of beach, river, bush and a (generally) magical climate. Since moving here the family has grown to include our daughter now aged 8 (9 very soon). She attends peregian beach college and has done so since she was 3. She is thriving there and a very happy child making the most of the beach and lifestyle we now take for granted. It is a very healthy environment for families and a wonderful place to come back to after we have been on adventures elsewhere.
