Biblical' floods threaten Australian homes

BUNDABERG, Australia — Flood waters swept through vast areas of northeastern Australia Saturday, threatening to inundate thousands more homes in a disaster one official said was of "biblical proportions".

As Queen Elizabeth II sent her "sincere sympathies" to Queenslanders who rang in a damp new year, helicopters were being used to deliver food and other supplies to isolated towns.

Up to 200,000 people have been affected by the floods, which have hurt the nation's lucrative mining industry and cut off major highways as the water rushes through sodden inland regions to the sea.

"In many ways, it is a disaster of biblical proportions," Queensland State Treasurer Andrew Fraser told reporters in flood-hit Bundaberg.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who on Friday toured inundated regions, said the floods had been devastating and would clearly have an economic impact.

"We're still directly battling floodwaters -- we haven't seen the peak of the flood yet at centres like Rockhampton -- so the people of Queensland in many places are doing it tough today," she said.

I have 3 uncles living in Bundaberg and thank God they are all safe. Their houses are intact, not affected by the floods (apperantly they are build well off ground), but their fields (they are farmers) are all drowned with water and lots of damage to crops (i think they said they have potatoes at the moment)

They are stuck at home cause most roads are flooded with water but at least they are safe.

I'm talking about next year and each year after that, any dingbat can predict bad weather from a current cyclone heading towards them.

To be honest it is only the global warming experts who say the weather around the world is changing, I do not believe them to be honest and I think it is just natural earth cycle, but we are having some extreme weather these days,
