Guest Leelee53 Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Hi, Im looking into the SS route as a Primary teacher of 3yrs. I understand that I must secure a job in ACT prior to lodging my visa application, but wanted to know if this job had to be a teaching position, or am I able to choose another job? Many thanks ;o)

Why don't you go on www.seek.com.au and see the jobs for your occupation. There are other job sites as well where you can search for suitable vacancies.

And I'm not sure but I think it will be quite difficult to find work as a primary teacher in Canberra from elsewhere, as its not really in demand. High school teachers are more in demand. To the other poster - on ACT's new State Migration Plan they have certain conditions attached to some of the jobs - some says limited spaces and others mention that you have to have that specific job first before they can sponsor you.

I am so sorry... I did not realize that. My apologies.
Quoll Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Not at all likely that you will find sponsorship as a primary teacher in ACT - it is very hard to get a permanent position in ACDET as a primary teacher at the best of times. You will also need to be in possession of a permanent resident visa in order to be able to apply for a position. Many young teachers are just not going into the profession but are choosing other options because it is so hard to get permanency.

But if you need to prove that you have looked for a job and have some leads then yes make sure it is in the right profession. They are sponsoring because they want more of a particular profession there, not to do you a favour.

They will only sponsor people in this profession who are already in post.

lavender776 Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I assume it is aimed at onshore applicants. Not great really.
