JuliePaul Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Your 2 dogs will be in quaranteen for 6 months so shouldn't be a problem... 6 months...................?? We arrive in Queensland in February 2011 and our dog only has to do 30 days in quarantine! I think originally it used to be 6 months but the timeframes have changed!
Dawny Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Hi there, Our two boys were in quarantine for 30 days in Sydney! We were very lucky as to secure a rental within the first two weeks of being there, Not all properties state that they are pet friendly, some are verbal agreements on applying, with certain conditions written in! Best to register with as many rental agencies as you can, also you won't get many city or modern builds or complex's that allow pets! Dawn :cute:
mj&db Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Quarantine is 30days. We are also heading out with 2 dogs. When you go on sites like domain.com.au and realestate.com.au the "pet friendly" section throws up very few properties. We however have been advised to not worry about that too much. The the properties that defintely DONT want pets seem to state it quite clearly on the advert. Everything else is worth looking at and applying for. We have put a couple hundred dollars aside for a "dog bond" and will also be submitting references for our dogs from our current landlord and housemates. Also been advised that some landlords will let you have dogs as long as they are kept outside so this may be something you may have to "agree" to. We plan to do this anyway - build them a sheltered kennel and give them run of the garden (well when we are not home anyway....they will be coming in for a cuddle when we are home!).
cypruscj Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Phew! Glad I found this thread! My fiance and I are planning to emmigrate to Sydney by end of 2011 and have a collie/lab/German Shepherd aka a mongrel! We are planning to take him with us and know all the jazz about quarantine 30days etc. We also have experience of renting in Sydney and know that Sydney although dog friendly its not so much dog-rental friendly. Lots of smaller breed dogs in apartment complex's, I guess because they are easier to keep and take up less space.....Our dog is large, 30kg. Docile and never barks would you believe, so I am really stressing about finding apartment to suit! Hoping to find someone on Poms in Oz who has experience of renting with dogs, and whether doggy contracts/bonds and references etc helped significantly?

Hi we rented in Killarney vale, central coast nsw, and dealt with PRD, Which seemed to have the most pet friendly rentals on their books, They do however get snatched up very quickly as you can imagine, we never paid any extra bond for having our two large ret x labs! Never got asked for references either, but it can only help having them and being prepared just in case! But we did offer to pay extra months rental upfront, Which was declined! All the very best x

I have also lived in Sydney (6yrs ago mind) and from what I can remember I don't think you'll have much luck getting an apartment with a bigger dog, as I imagine if they consider dogs, it would only be toy dogs I have seen lots of houses across the city that are dog friendly, with massive back gardens for them to run around in that are near on the same price as the city centre apartments!
Guest sh7t man no way Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 in queenland you have to have a yard (back garden) big enough to accomadate the dogs,if you are renting this will add to the rental price, you may have to go out of town a bit to meet your needs--it could be worth looking at real estates that do semi/rural rentals just till you find your feet--if not could you not put the dogs in local kennels till you sort yourselfs out

The more and more we look in to it, the more and more we think we are going to look out of the City. Just looking at properties in the Central Coast and they are half the price of the same spec in Sydney, only an 1hour 20min commute (which I do now anyway) and also have beaches where you can let your dogs of the lead!! Decision made me thinks!
