Jobs for Brits with a VISA

Hi All,

 

My girlfriend and I are flying out to Mebourne on January 26th. She has a good job lined up already and has sponsorship for the VISA. Due to this I have a partner 457 Visa.

 

I work in IT telecommunications and I had heard that I may struggle to get a job because I'm British.

 

Could anyone confirm if this is the case?

I think you should be alright in Sydney. It's the regional areas that you find there is a 'locals first' prejudice.

If you don't get a job straight away it's a good excuse though...you should go surfing instead for a while your girlfriend is working :wink:

 

Seriously you may find the issue, like anywhere, is more to do with being limited to just job ads where other residents have access to friends recommendations, previous employers, previous colleagues etc. Maybe you should tell everyone you meet what you are looking for and try to build some contacts that way.
