Guest flossiebess Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Hi there total newbie here  just wanted to know if an electrician (general) has to do an IELTS test to gain the 25 points required for the independent 175 visa? I know we automatically get 15, but can anyone advise on the test, what it's like etc? Thanks!
busa13r Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Hi, the only reason to do the IELTS test is if you need the extra 10 points. If you have enough points already, don't worry about it. If you do indeed need the extra, you will have to get a pass mark of 7 or above in each discipline. Hope this helps
busa13r Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Sorry, forgot - welcome to PIO, your in a great place to get all the info you need !
Guest flossiebess Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 thanks - we do need the extra, but hubby isn't confident he will pass.... he didn't do too well at school, is there anyone who didn't pass GCSE (or CSE) and still pass the IELTS with 7 or above?
Eddie2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Hi welcome ;-) the test is ok just get the revision pack and practice ESP the writing , don't worry u can take again but the practice material and DVD really let's you have a heads up , good luck
Pumpkin Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 thanks - we do need the extra, but hubby isn't confident he will pass.... he didn't do too well at school, is there anyone who didn't pass GCSE (or CSE) and still pass the IELTS with 7 or above? It isn't a hard test, but he would get points deducted for spelling and grammatical mistakes so he would need to practice hard if this is an issue ... and avoid using any words if he is not 100% sure of the spelling.
joanie66 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Hubbie tried and got 7.0, 6.0, 6.5, 9.0 first time and 6.5, 6.5, 6.5, 9.0 second time. Not a straight forward test as it is designed for none native English speakers so if you were born and brought up in the UK it isn't just as easy as it should be. We know of a GP who didn't get 4 x 7's the first time he took it. Luckily we found a different route where hubby didn't need the extra 10 points from IELTS. Advice would be to get the practice books and google for as much info as you can find. I managed to log myself in as a tutor to get some insight to it!
