Guest nest1234 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 30 DEC 2010 : Immigration SA will no longer provide an On Arrival Services program to meet the needs of newly arriving migrants to South Australia. This includes On Arrival Public Accommodation and the Meet and Greet service effective from now.:shocked::shocked::shocked:

If somebody cannot get off a plane, jump into a taxi to a hotel and sort themselves out in a new country then I have to wonder are they ready to migrate anyway.
Guest Bokkiegirl Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I saw this quite a few weeks ago.. was also relying on these public services but will make due
Quoll Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 It was the only state doing it and it seemed like a bit of a waste of tax payers resources to be honest - people who were perfectly capable of getting themselves settled were using the resources. If someone cant get their feet on the ground when they arrive then, as Pumpkin said, perhaps migration isnt really going to be a goer.

Phoenix16 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 100% agree with all the above comments, perhaps this is the time to consider if migration is for you????
ali Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 We arrived in Perth not knowing a single soul ... got to our accommodation, started our new life (with the information from PIO) and had no-one to fall back on ... if we could do it ... i'm sure most people can
Toolbox Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 someone with authority, should just close off this thread!..am sure all the SA aspirants are much more concerned abt the SMP and do not care, if the 'arrival service' is taken off...big thumbs up to the Smart Alec, who started the thread! Well its his/her point of view which they are entitled too, whether we agree with it or not:wink:
Alex997 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Well its his/her point of view which they are entitled too, whether we agree with it or not:wink: ..yup...true!..guess,was too fixated on only ONE big news!....any thread with SA in it,makes me pre-empt that it is abt the SMP....n when the thread is opened,a rant abt 'arrival services' or rather the lack of it,is a huge disappointment!...sorry,no offence meant.:embarrassed:
gaz n family Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Flippin heck - The OP was pointing it out and letting others know who had not seen it. I doubt I would have needed it, but if it was there then I would have taken the extra advice and assistance. it also included a FREE education and skills transfer from your country to Aus equivalent. Yes its not the end of the world them not doing it, but I don't think the OP was saying such. Why shouldn't they start this thread, it was informative, I learnt from it. Until PIO Start charging for membership then this individual has much right to open this thread as any other member and should be able to do so without being set jumped upon. It, at no point insulted anyone, was not rude or aggressive nor was it advertising, so I see no reason why is should be closed, or the OP be set upon. IMO the transferring of the UK skills and certificates is something priceless, if they no longer offer it then I will look elsewhere to have it done (not State Sponsorship). I have numerous certificates and qualifications not currently easily recognised so this is something I need as not all my certificates are to do with my primary skills, I do and did do other jobs that I could do on arrival if I needed to should the right job not be there immediatly.
Malkitek Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I think anyone waiting for SA smp just getting a little frustrated! I was looking forward to a local retiree giving us local info, but am also sure we will all cope without it, and I'll just chat up some auld folk at a bus stop  Gill
