Hi all, my husband, son and I are hoping to come to australia on a 457 visa and im trying to go through the whole process ourselves to save on the large amounts of cash some agencies are quoting!

Just looking for some nurses who are going through or who have gone through the process to clarify that im doing things right and not missing anything.

Ive just started the whole process and already spending hours a day on the computer researching this! My eyes will be square by the end of it all :)

So far, i understand you have to register with the ANMC to complete a skills assesment, this also includes doing a IELTS english test?, after this I then apply to be registered with the relevant nursing board,in my case we are aiming for perth area therefore will register with NMBWA? Do i complete the skills assesmnt first before applying with the nursing board or will the request the skills assesment as part of the application?

as stated we will be applying via the 457 visa route so in order to obtain sponsership do you recommend contacting as many private and public health sectors around the area we wish to live and ask about sponsership or is there another way of going about it?

I have spoken with MEDISERVE (nursing agency) who have stated they sponser overseas nurses, is this is a good option or is it just as easy to obtain sponsership by contacting permenant employers?

Regarding agencies, are they just similar to the UK where you could be in a different area every shift or do the agencies have alot of temporary work available on temp contracts for 3/6 months etc?.....not sure id enjoy constant agency work for the years before PR.

I have experience in acute medical receiving and respiratory.

Im hoping im on the right road or the days ive spend accumulating housework as ive been clued to the computer have been a waste of time :)

Im thinking the hardest part is going to be finding furnished accomodation!!

thanks

NMBWA no longer exists. Its now AHPRA and you need to register with them. This means you pay one registration fee and you can work in the whole of oz. You have to work full time on a 457 visa. If agency work dries up that could be a problem. You need to know that the work is guaranteed. The public hospital i work for in Perth are not recruiting overseas nurses at the moment. Agency nurses at work do work in all areas. You could try contacting private hospitals for sponsorship. Good luck!
