Guest IlkleyMoorBahtat Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 This is a bit of a how long's a piece of string question but hang in there please! We're trying to plan the next few months because we are renting a house and our contract ends mid-Feb. Our 457 employer sponsored visa should be submitted mid-Jan and they have said it will take about 6 weeks, which takes us to the end of Feb. We are planning on moving into my Dad's house before we emigrate to tie up loose ends but we're not sure we should leave our rental in mid-Feb and ship our property before our visa is finalised. So I wondered if there is a point in the process when you know it's going through and it's just a case of waiting for the rubber stamp...or is it not over until it's in your hand? Any help appreciated, all new to me! Louise
Pumpkin Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I have not heard of many 457 visas being declined but it does happen. If I were you I would wait and don't assume anything until it is granted. If the company is experienced in sponsorship, I am sure they will have a good idea as to whether it will be accepted or not. You will not be able to ship your stuff before you get your visa. The shipping company will require evidence of your visa.
Guest IlkleyMoorBahtat Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Ah I did not know that. Thanks for your help!

A lot of the 457 visa threads on here recently have said that have received visas in approx 2 weeks. You can track the progress of your visa once it has been submitted on the immigration website you will need a TRN number from your migration agent. Once your visa is approved the agent will email you a copy...well thats what ours did. Ours went through very smoothly with no problems but I was a bit like you didn't want to make arrangments till I knew all was finalised. Hope all goes well
Guest IlkleyMoorBahtat Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Fantastic! Thanks so much for that, it was really helpful. Our rental contract ends mid-Feb so it would be great if it came through before then and we don't have to plead with our landlord for a couple of extra weeks! You must be so excited. Do you have a family?

Do you have a family? Excited but also getting a bit scared its a very big step and the closer it gets the more it is real. There is just me Jayne (38) and my girlfriend Angie (31) whos a nurse. We don't have any kids...but I have some family in Oz a cousin and an Aunt although they wont be too close by. Always good to have a bit of support have you got family in Oz?
Guest IlkleyMoorBahtat Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Nope not a soul! I have one friend in Melbourne who I worked with in London 10yrs ago now...and that is it. A bit scary but with kids you make friends quickly so it's not too bad. We have some friends moved out to the Middle East nearly fours years ago now. They advised not to think about it too much.....they've never looked back. Loving the lifestyle out there. Are you shipping much out there?

Yeah I guess with kids it makes things a little bit easier...because they make friends and then so do you. We are not shipping lots of stuff out as we have rented our property out in the UK furnished. I guess we will probably have about 4 or 5 boxes of stuff. If you are shipping everything out then there is loads of information on here about costs and companies to use. Have you started researching flight prices yet? Flights from Oz to UK if you are planning to return home to visit are really expensive. Part of me wonders if it would have been cheaper to book a return for migrating and use the return part as part of visiting flight. Might be something to consider. If you have any other questions just send me a message. If you fancy meeting up for a chat when you get out there that would be cool.
