Cinema / films in Oz

A friend of ours emigrated to New Zealand a few years ago and once mentioned that a film he'd been keen to see wasn't available there yet.

 

Are films generally released at a similar time to the UK?

 

In the UK they always used to be a few weeks behind the US but in general they tend to be released in the same week now - Presumably to combat internet piracy.
