Guest mcgkerry Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Hi there Husband and i have been in Oz for 3.5 years and are now citizens. Hoorah! I have one sister(perm resident NZ) no other siblings. Mother and father remain in UK but we want to get them over here if possible as no one is left in uk. They have a few medical issues (high blood pressure.type 2 diabetes and mum had breast cancer 1.5 years ago) all managed and well otherwise. We can pay the contribution/fees etc but the medical is the concern Is there a medical pre-screen that can be done before we spend the time and effort on applying for a contrib parent visa....or does anyone have experience of parents with medical issues and how strict the medicals are? Is there any point in even applying I wonder? I hope not as we miss them but are happy here :-) Thanks
Guest guest36187 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Hi there The best thing that you can do is talk to an agent - they can give you solid advice rather than the speculation that members can give. None of us are legal eagles you see!! Lol! As far as I am aware, as long as your medical conditions are controlled and this can be backed up.....it should all be ok. I am epileptic - when I went for my 457 I had to have a few more tests etc in order to pass the medical but all went well. Good Luck , keep us informed. PS many agents post on here. George Lombard and Alan Collett to name but a few
Pumpkin Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I agree that you need to consult an agent specialising in medical issues in this situation. I would be concerned about the cancer only 1.5 years ago, I thought they generally wanted a longer remission period. George Lombard and Peter Bollard specialise in migration with medical issues.
wrussell Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Is there a medical pre-screen that can be done before we spend the time and effort on applying for a contrib parent visa The short answer is yes. I suggest you consult a registered migration agent about this and about visa strategy.
