Guest chris955 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Floods deal $6bn blow to economy as more evacuated in Queensland deluge | News.com.au This story puts the rain we have had up for the last few months in perspective. There was a report this morning saying we could be paying 50% more for many basic food items, that was probably an exaggeration but we will inevitably see big increases.
Guest guest36187 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I would like to hope that all our PIO`ers in FNQ and affected areas are all ok. Increased prices are a small price to pay for the rain. I`d rather pay increases than hear there had been lots of loss of life
calNgary Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 We were almost stranded yesterday ,i put some pics on Facebook last night, at some parts the river near us has risen approx 20 mtrs. It must be horrendous for those who have had to evacuate and have lost their homes, especially this time of year. Cal x
Guest chris955 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I have just been watching the devastation being caused by these seemingly endless floods sweeping across Queensland. The main streets of Toowoomba and Gympie have been wrecked, dozens of cars washed away, people killed, building demolished with much more rain to come in the next few weeks. People were just in tears watching their whole lives being washed away. I can't imagine what it must be like. The damage being caused is unbelievable, roads are being ripped up, bridges ripped up and washed away, businesses wrecked.

calNgary Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Never seen them cal, i will have a look now. Note the date of my post Alan it was a few weeks ago,the pics are still on there though. The levels subsided quite quickly in comparrison with the folk affected up North but today we noticed they are rising again quickly and its thought they may cut the roads tomorrow again if the rain doesnt ease. Cal x

Guest siamsusie Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 With heavy rainfalls across north-eastern Tasmania, roads have been cut and residents and businesses are facing days of clean up and waiting as rivers peak.
Guest chris955 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 No I don't suppose they will but that doesn't make it any less relevant. dont think the poor souls that have lost the life and the familys who are suffering the loss and who have lost the homes etc will be thinking off how much it as cost
kernow43 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Have a look at these photos of Queensland floods, excellent photography Captured: Flooding in Australia | Plog
geegriff Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 An iconic patriotic poem by Dorothea MacKellar says it best - " I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of drought and flooding rains" reminds us that we choose to live in the best country in the world - free of war, persecution, disease and poverty. Queenslanders and Australians together will rise from this calamity and move on - but move on with the determination that we're renowned for.
