Introducing myself :)

Hi everyone!

I signed up to this site a few months ago but only now have the chance to properly introduce myself and hopefully get to know you guys!

My name is David, and I'm a 29 year old male. I moved over here from Glasgow 3 months ago. I've come here to teach, but won't be starting that till the kids go back to school in late January, so have been doing call centre type jobs to keep me going! My plan is to base myself in Sydney, then take myself off to other places in Australia for a visit when the mood takes, and I can afford it :D My VISA runs until September but will make a decision closer to the time as to extending it or go back home.

To be honest, and this is part of the reason I'm finally introducing myself, I've found it difficult at times here because I'm struggling to make friends that are going to be here for a decent amount of time. I keep meeting people that I get on really well with, only to find out they're backpackers who are leaving in a month or whatever, and it does get me down :( So I'm hoping there will be some peeps on here who wouldn't mind meeting up so I can increase my social circle.

My current job doesn't help either, as the hours are 11 - 7.30 so it basically cuts out my entire day! That will change though when I start teaching :)

In my spare time I like to play football (not found anywhere here yet!), volleyball and some other sports. I really want to scuba dive while I'm here but will need to wait till I've got a teaching job first as it's an expensive pursuit! I love going to the cinema and live music and have seen Muse and Bon Jovi since I've come here who were both AMAZING :D

I also love watching British comedies like Blackadder, Young Ones, The Office etc.

And I love a good night out at a bar followed by a club! My favourite place here is Retro, because they play all the cheesy 80s music that I love :D

Anyway, that's me! I hope to get to know some of you, as friends really do make a massive difference I find!!

Hi David

Welcome to PIO, it sounds like you are having fun.

I know what you mean about back packers moving on, my son recently did a diving course and I thought what a great way it would be to make friends, however they were all backpackers or on holiday so once the course finished that was it. Hopefully when you start teaching there will be some one at the school who you can get together with. Take a look in the socialising part of the forum as well there are lots of people always trying to arrange meet ups all over Australia.

Thanks Kate :)

Yeah I've had a look in that forum already, will probably try to attend one of the meet ups after the new year, or even organise my own :D Unfortunately I'm just teaching casually so probably won't be in one school the whole year, so I might find it difficult to make friends there, but we shall see :D
