Guest Guest47308 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Hello everybody I signed up to PIO today and i am really enjoying looking around your lovely forum  I am happy to say that as a family we have been discussing emigrating to Australia, Perth to be precise! and we have decided to.......... Go for it. The problem is we have not got a clue how to get started! there are sooooo many visa's. I know that advice is probably not allowed to be given, but if i give everyone some info about us, maybe someone will of experienced the same as us and could point us in the right direction. My hubby is the one with the "skill" Diesel Mechanic by trade has his city and guilds level 3 got about 13 yrs experience. I work as a health care assistant in local NHS hospital, we have 2 children ages 6 and 10. I know hubbys trade used to be on list, dont think it is anymore (must look that up) we dont want an employer sponsored visa (like gold dust anyway, i am sure) we would rather apply for independant (i think) and dont have a clue what a state sponsored is, or if we would even be eligable????? Any help would be great, looking forward to getting to know you all  Ta

Guest Guest47308 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Thanks for the reply, will go and look those two up........ Thanks
warren&liz Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Hi PerkiPie Welcome to PIO. If you go to the migration issues page, near the top, there is a thread entitled WA SS released today, or just search for the title. This has a list of all the jobs for WA. Diesel mechanic is on it number 321212. 60 places are available. My husband is a diesel mechanic and we just got our 176 visa in November. This means you are state sponsored and are obliged to stay in that state for 2 years after receiving your visa. The visa is permanent so after that time you can live wherever you wish. Also if you wish for advice just ask. Someone will probably be able to help. Hope this helps. Liz x
Guest Guest47308 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Hello Liz and thank you sooooooo much for that information. I have no idea what to do with it though... LOL Congratulations on getting your visa by the way, i bet you are thrilled ;-) Amanda
warren&liz Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Hi Amanda Are you going to get an agent to help you through the process? If you do they will get you all the appropriate forms and tell you what you need to do. When we started doing this we got ourselves one, but, lots of people on here have done it themselves. If you decide to go it alone they will help you with any questions you might have. Anyway, Warren had to have his qualifications passed by TRA first. This basically said his qualifications were equal to Oz quals which meant he could practice mechanicing over there. Once that was passed you could then put in your application for your visa. We originally put in for a 175 but changed to a 176 later. Things have changed since we started so I am not sure if you can do that now. I know this is really confusing but the best way is take your time and do everything in the right order. Get all the paper qualifications gathered together, you will need them, you will also need proof of where he is working and for how long. Pay slips and P60s are what we had to show. As I said lots of people here ready to help. Hope I haven't put you off. Liz x
Guest Guest47308 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 You most certinatly have not put me off, you have made us all that more determined!! We would defo be getting ourselves an agent, We are so excited to be starting this journey. Now off to choose a reputable agent... LOL Thanks again, you have been fantastic Liz  Amanda
warren&liz Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Glad I was of some help. Keep us updated with your progress. Will be keeping an eye out for you. As I said some things have changed since we started but a good agent will know what is what. Good luck. Liz x
Metoo Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Hi Perkie, There are a couple of seminars coming up in the new year. Down Under Live will be at 'National Motorcycle Museum' (near the NEC) on 26th and 27th Feb. Also they are at the 'Business Design Centre' in Islington London on 5th & 6th March. (Google 'Down Under Live') We have been to a few of these exhibitions and have found them very helpful. There will be agents there to advise you on what sort of visa would be most suitable. You can also collect loads of other information concerned with emigrating, like, how to ship your pets, banking in Australia, buying property etc. If you are in the vicinity of any of theses exhibitions then I would definitely recommend that you visit them especially as you are new to this immigration lark. ps I took two of my sisters with me last time and convinced one of them that she should emigrate to New Zealand lol
Guest Guest47308 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Thank you very much Metoo, i will google it now. The one near the NEC is nearer to us. It is such a minefield of info etc, attending will defo be a good idea for us. Did your sister emigrate to NZ?
Metoo Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 She found out that she qualifies for a visa for NZ but can't get into Australia (Too old) so NZ would be her second best choice. Funny though because she never dreamt of emigrating before she went to the exhibition, my second sister got quite excited about all the brilliant holidays she could have visiting her rellies lol
