cartertucker Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Please can someone point me in the right direction..... We were lucky enough to be granted our visas some time ago, shortly after, I found out I was expecting a baby :cute: We have to validate our visas in March & I need to get our baby a visa sorted ASAP! I have no idea where to start & would be so gratefull if someone could help me a little :wubclub: Im really worried
cartertucker Posted December 27, 2010 Author Posted December 27, 2010 We really didnt want to have to pay an agent to help.... It already cost thousands to get ours But mayby thats the only way?....
hope2 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Just give your migration agent a call and they should be able to advise you without charge. I guess if there wasnt time to get visa for baby before you need to validate - you could validate but leave the newborn with relatives and get baby visa at later date???? Better that then lose your visa?

Pumpkin Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I don't think you need to use an agent if you don't want to, you just need to apply for a child visa. Not sure how long the child visas are taking at the moment, but if you are just going for a validation trip, then I can see no reason why the baby cannot come on a tourist visa. The trouble with that is that the baby will then need to go and validate his visa on a separate occasion, unless that can be timed with the permanent move?
cartertucker Posted December 27, 2010 Author Posted December 27, 2010 Thankyou all for your replys :cute: I really am starting to get worried! I have emailed the migration agent I used for our visas, asking for advice, so hopefully they'll get back to me Please do keep your good advice/suggestions coming :cute:

If child visas are taking, say, six weeks then apply for one of them. If they are taking six months then get the tourist visa for baby for the March validation trip.
_shel Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Child visas are taking 5 to 6 months but quite simple to do yourself. Like Pumpkin said it will also need validating so take him on a tourist visa and get the child visa for when you make the actual move to save another validation trip.
Alan Collett Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Child Visa (Offshore) (Subclass 101) Yep, Child visa it is. Check processing times for these visas in London first - your agent should be in a position to provide guidance in this regard. As others have said, a Child visa application is quite straightforward. The risk issue for you is possibly seeking to expedite the visa application for baby so you can head to Australia in March. Best regards.

Better that then lose your visa? If visas have been granted the appointment with the agent has almost certainly technically ended. However, a migration agent that has festive generosity should be receptive to an enquiry from a former client ... :v_SPIN: Happy New Year!
cartertucker Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 Thankyou all so much & especially Allan...:notworthy: I have emailed & left a message with my migration agent, so hopefully they can help me further... I am getting worried as it has been mentioned that child visas could take 5-6months! But I would hope that they could get it to us sooner, as we only have until March & I couldnt have applied any earlier, as my baby is only 3 weeks old, have just recieved her birth certificate & am now getting her passport

Yes Alan, I am aware of this. I would not have suggested that they use a tourist visa if this was the permanent move. But it isn't. It is a validation trip, which is in essence a holiday, as once you walk through passport control all that is left to do is enjoy the sights. Well that is how mine worked anyway.

They told me 5-6 months for processing. Dont know if they would push it through for you or if an agent could but personally I'd take the baby on a tourist visa if you're just validating.

cartertucker Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 I recieved a reply from Australia House today & it seems I need to contact my case officer....Would you agree? Dear Kelly, Thank you for your enquiry. Children cannot be added to a permanent visa once it has been granted. If you wish to take your new baby with you to Australia, you will need to apply for Child Migration. This is currently taking about 5 to 6 months. This is the only permanent visa option for the child. Once the application is lodged you may be able to take the child to Australia on a tourist visa, but you would firstly need to discuss this with your case officer. The child will not be able to be in Australia at the time the visa is granted.
_shel Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 You dont have a case officer right now if you have not yet lodged the child visa and your own visa has been issued. Once you lodge the child visa you'll get a new case officer, then just let them know the dates you will be in Australia and apply for an evisa on their web site for the baby. If you have not got a case officer near the time you are going just email Australia house again letting them know the dates so they dont issue the child visa whilst you are there.

Thankyou so so much for making that much clearer :notworthy: Would it take long to get a case officer do you think? Would there be much difference in us validating in March, or making the permanant move?
_shel Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Shouldnt take long I'd think if they will issue in 5-6 months. No problem being in Aus and letting them know but you will have to then validate babs visa later. When were you planning on making the move? If not for some time maybe hold off applying until nearer when you are migrating then you wont have to validate.

Thanks again :cute: We are in a bit of 'limbo' with when we are making the move....Our beloved dog has cancer & has been having chemo for a year ~ He is old & we cannot now take him with us ~ So, if he is still around by March, we will go, validate & return to the Uk to care for him..........However ~ If he has passed over by March ~ We will be making the permanant move Its hard to make plans at the moment & is so not helped by the fact I still need to get my new Daughters passport
