Hi, is there any welders out there, that has moved out to oz? did you get a job before you moved or just wait until you got to australia?

Hi, where are you heading for ...? Ihad a good long holiday first then got to know where all the work was and big companies also the small ones ............you wont have any trouble in Perth , lots going on ,lots of firms working nights to cope with the amount of work too...............Good luck.........

my OH is a welder and we are flying to Perth in 3 weeks... he has been firing off emails the week before Christmas and a few of them replied asking him to come see them when he arrives, so I think it's either a case of not committing the week before Christmas or simply of course that they want to meet him before offering a job.

But the signs are promising, there are ALOT of suitable companies over there looking for welders so we are confident of him landing a job quickly

Have they got boards up outside factories asking for welders still? We saw loads of them when we were there in 2008.

Hey, I'm a welder to, due over in March. Im heading over to Newcastle and from the research I have done there seems to be plenty of work about. My only worry is that I'm only going on a 12 month WHV, and I may have trouble getting work due to the 6 month employment rule.

My husband is a Welder. Didn't have a job when he came , joined a few agencies and got a full time permanent job with a company he was sent to

I don't think welders would have any problem finding work in WA. There seems to be plenty of jobs advertised for welders (my husband does similar work... though not a welder)

Hi Hoot, what is the wages like compared with uk? my OH is hoping to get a job within the oil and gas industry is there alot of oil companies in perth?

Hi Twinkle I actually came back on here to mention that I have been on another site and someone is looking for a welding job and hasn't found one yet, so maybe not as many as I first thought. I don't want to give false illusions so thought I better come back. I'm not sure about the oil and gas industry but there there are mining companies operating on a fly -in fly-out basis from Perth

good luck on your move

there are lots of jobs for second class welders, but they could end up treating you like a labourer and dont pay anything like 1st class welders............i know a few out of work now but im been told the work is coming ....but when...?ive just been finished up myself..........

Hi sorry yes for 2nd class welders you are right. Sorry I would delete my post (but don't know how), I don't want to give anyone false hopes

I've seen the term 1st and 2nd class welders lots when I've been searching, but what us the actually definition of them? It's not something you really see in the UK. I'd assume 1st class means trade qualified?

Hi, I'm not welder but I know from working up North in Mining / Construction that there's always work for welders, i think some people call them boiler makers, go to seek.com.au and type in 'boilermaker' and select 'WA' as the location. Might give you a bit of an idea of what's about and what you need in terms of experience etc.

Hey can't help you too much. My partner is a welder, he has just filled in the application for vetassess, he wrote out a full work history of everywhere he has worked and every little thing he did and how he did. He got 2 references to cover 4 years of work experience, also Photos of his work. We are just waiting to hear back if he has passed stage one before he goes on to the technical interview, can't tell you anymore as we don't know.
