Guest vixen29 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Hi everyone, this is our first Christmas and New Year in Melbourne and had a fab relaxed Christmas day. We are wondering what to do for NYE and not looking to break the bank to do it! ANy suggestions? What do you all have planned? I see Fed Square in the city has an event on, anyone know if this is good/ frustratingly busy or not worth bothering with? We stay down in Mornington, is there anything in and around this area worth considering or is it all about the city on NYE. v
Guest guest36187 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 The best NY Eve`s that I have had have been at home with friends. Sitting round a table loaded with food and drink. Good music playing! Im a home bird!!!!
TheOptimist Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Hi, Never been to Fed Sq on NYE, but think its pretty busy from what I have heard. Think they have fireworks etc there. Depending on where you live, a good option could be to go to one of the more happening suburbs? Williamstown has incredible views of the city so you would get a bulls eye view of the CBD over the water whilst having some nice but not ridiculously expensive places to eat and drink too. Enjoy whatever you get up to, exciting that its your first Christmas/New Year there!
Guest The Pom Queen Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 You have a few things you could do. Personally apart from one year we have always gone in to the city, excellent entertainment and great for the kids and adults. Remember it's free public transport so you can catch the train up from Frankston free of charge. You could also look at Morning Star Estate, it's a great price and this year they have Robbie Williams and the Beatles cover band, you can either take a picnic or purchase food from the stalls there. If you don't have children they also hold another event indoors a cabaret. Mornington Peninsula Restaurant & Accommodation | MSE Winery There is Rye Carnival (although sometimes the carnival itself closes for NYE) it gets very busy on the road down there and to be honest I think the city is better for families. Also a few go down to Philip Island for the Pyramid Rock festival The Pyramid Rock Festival 2010/11

Going to look into all the suggestions just now. Really good that transport is free on NY too!
