Hi all,

I'm hoping some of the nice Brits living in (or with experience of) Brisbane will be able to help me out?

I'm writing a Brisbane guide to go in a paper for the benefit of Poms looking to move to the river city.

I'm hoping some of you could share your inside knowledge of the best places to eat, drink, live, shop, go to school, go out and so on.

Please reply to this thread with your insights and a bit about yourself, it may benefit those who are in the position you were in a year or two ago?!

The deadline is next Wednesday (8th) but the information only needs to be in short 'snippits'.

Many thanks,

M

Matt, here is a few comments to get you started...

The Harem Turkish restaurant in Paddington is good: http://www.bestrestaurants.com.au/restaurants/qld-brisbane-harem.htm

If you like Thai food there is a great little place called Thai Terrace in Rosalie: http://www.totaltravel.com.au/link.asp?fid=570567

Find your nearest Cold Rock Ice cream cafe and pay them a visit: http://www.coldrock.com.au/ and for those who like coffee the Coffee Club loyalty card is going to be worth the $20 http://www.coffeeclub.com.au/

For people who need a nice B&B to stay in Mary is a wonderful host, extremely helpful and willing to share her knowledge of Brisbane with anybody willing to ask, she runs Fern Cottage B&B in Rosalie with her husband. http://www.wotif.com/hotels/fern-cottage-b-b.html Mary also rents out apartments on a medium term basis which would be great for those first few weeks in a new country.

For anyone needing cheap car hire I have used http://www.alphacarhire.com.au/ and had no problems, plus they were one of the cheapest in town. They will do airport pick ups too. If your not into driving, pay the girls at the travel booth behind the Tourist information Centre a visit to get all your questions answered.

If you like animals and expect some visitors (friends/family) from back home in the next 12 months, I would suggest buying an annual pass for Australia zoo and Fig Tree Pocket Koala Sanctuary, the tickets are fairly cheap and I bet you'll go a few time making the modest spend well worth it.

And last but not least, why not take a look at Poms In Brisbane forum .: Poms In Brisbane :. Forum for Poms In Brisbane

Chris.
