endtroducing27 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I'm at the stage where I'm looking for a job to sponsor me for 457 visa, with a view to applying for a permanent visa when I'm in Oz. The thing is I don't know which permanent visa to apply for when I'm there! When I look on the immigration website, the only options that come up for Nurses to apply for permanent visa's onshore apply to regional areas or only apply to students? I've read about people applying for permanent residency but don't understand if this is a specific visa in itself or if it's just an umbrella term for all permanent visas. I think I'm actually going mental, sorry guys!
Pumpkin Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Are you in a rush to get to Australia as soon as you possibly can? If not, there is no reason why you have to find an employer get a 457 visa now and then apply for PR once you are in Australia. You could just got for the PR visa from the beginning. It takes longer but the quickest visa does not mean the best visa. Anyway if you do go on a 457 employer sponsored, then no you do not apply for "PR" status, you have to lodge another visa application and one that offers permanent resident status. One option is the 175/6 visa, which you could also apply for now if time is on your side. This is an offshore visa but you can apply for it from within Australia, you just have to go offshore to have it granted. The other option is to ask the employer to sponsor you for a permanent employer sponsored visa, the ENS. If you do a skills assessment they could sponosr you for this visa straight away.

Rush definitely on, my Mum, Sister and her family (already in Sydney) are basically all just waiting for me to get my visa so my Mum and I can move. I think I might apply for my skills assessment here, and then lodge my application for the 175 Visa in Australia - does this sound about right? Also, another question - proof of childhood vaccinations! I have no proof to say which I had, even though I had all of them - does anybody know how to get round this?

You can lodge your skills assessment here and the 175 whilst in Australia if that suits you. What is the situation with your mum? Not sure if you are saying that she is already there with your sister or she will follow. What is the strategy for getting your mum there? Never heard of anyone having to provide details of childhood vaccinations.

My Mum's good to go, she has Australian Citizenship by descent - it will be her first time living there too, we both currently live here in the UK but when I get my visa we will be going to stay with my Sister in Sydney. Thanks for your help btw, very much appreciated
ali Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 If you have no other siblings/partner/children in the UK could you apply for last remaining relative? Your mum would probably have to already be in Aus
