Guest haris72 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Hi.This is my first post.I am the owner of a dry cleaning-laundry establishment for 16 years. My occupation is not on the SOL but for example it is on WA's state priority occupation list described as in "high" demand. What does this mean? Can I apply for a visa and what are the possibilities?
Pumpkin Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 You firstly need to check the SOL to see if your occupation is on there, I have just checked schedule 4 of the SOL but did not see it. It is a long list though and certainly I could have missed it. If the occupation is on the SOL and is on a state sponsorship list then a 176 is an option. I have just checked WA list however and I did not see anything on there that seemed to match your occupation either. Where are you looking? I am looking here. The Department of Training and Workforce Development - Skilled Migration Western Australia - Occupations in demand I wonder if a business visa might be more appropriate in your case?
Guest haris72 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Unfortunately it is not on the sol or the statesponsorship list...Business visa you meen business owner?

If you feel like grasping at straws you might look for an employer to sponsor you for a temporary work visa (subclass 457) in the following: Hospitality, Retail and Service Managers nec EXCEPT: Abattoir Manager Brothel Keeper Equipment Hire Manager Laundrette Owner Taxi Proprietor Weight Loss Centre Manager nec stands for not elsewhere classified
Alan Collett Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Provisional) (Subclass 163) Possibly a subclass 163 visa strategy, as you are a business owner? Best regards.
Guest haris72 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 The problem is that I don't know the Australian market.I am looking for a visa that will allow me to work (just something to keep me going) and then decide what where and how I will start something on my own.The main problem is that my profession (drycleaning-laundry) is not on the sol.I have 16 years experience I am fully licenced (in my country) and I am also the owner of a small kiosk(cigaretes, refreshments, snacks).

You are not going to get a skilled migrant visa as your occupation is not on the SOL. So unless you have an Australian partner or parents that you have not mentioned you are not going to get a visa that allows you to work whilst you weigh up your options. The business owner visa that has been mentioned seems to be your best option.
Guest haris72 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 If I find someone who offers me a job under a labour agreement as a laundry worker or dry cleaner?and will I need a skills assesment?

It is very rare to get a visa under labour agreement and I really don't think it is likely for your occupation. Again, business visa seems your only option.
