Guest Andy Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Thanks Andy, we are over the moon! It was a 457 visa, th ewhole process has taken 7 months but the visa only took two weeks! We can't believe it! When you say two weeks, was that two weeks from when you sent the meds off?
jothy Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 The visa was lodged two weeks ago yesterday, we didn't need meds, think they are only needed for specific occupations.
gaz n family Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Congratulations, what a way to start the Christmas pressies. How come you didnt need a medical, i thought everyone had to have one? Now i am not expert so trying to understand who come. Are you on a Permenant Resident Visa?
jothy Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 Hi Gaz, we are going on a 457 which is a a temporary 4 year visa (employer sponsored). For this particular visa you only need medicals if you are going to be working in medicine or education. The company who are sponsoring us have said people are normally accepted for PR after 2 years.
Dawny Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Wow what a christmas present! Huge congratulations, This is one Christmas you will never forget! Enjoy the celebrations, as im sure you will, All the very best and a happy christmas to you!!! xx :anisanta:
sebahat Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Hi Jothy, can I ask you what the job is that you are going to do in Oz? We`ve just been granted visas as well but we waited 2 years for that and we needed medicals. It`s a long wait but now we have permanent residency Congratulations by the way, what a fantastic Xmas present :-)
Guest markandmichelle Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Congratulations to you, We didnot need meds done and we are here on a 457 visa, Best feeling in the world. all the best to you and have a good new year. Michelle
jothy Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 Thank you to all who posted. Me and my partner are thrilled beyond belief! We know we don't have PR but have gone into this with our eyes fully open and truly believe that at the stage we are at in our lives (both 32 and no children) we are doing what is best for us. It is my partner who has been sponsored, she is a recruitment consultant and will be restricted to that occupation for the length of the visa (as she no doubt would here) I am a floor layer but have freedom to do any job, so just gonna see what happens! Merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone (really is the season to be merry)
sebahat Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 it is indeed, so when are you moving then and what removal company are you planning to use? Are you taking lots with you?
jothy Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 Hi Sebahat, We are intending to arrive at the end of January 2011 and we are literally going to take a few suitcases and that's it. We have no intention of taking any furniture or anything 'big' at all. the only essential we will have is a laptop. I don't really see the point takin much else as we will be renting for a good while! When are you going and what do you do? Oh and where are you headed?
sebahat Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 We are planning to go in the nearest future as well, maybe Feb. It`s not so easy in our case as we have 2 little girls (11 months and 4 years) and we have lots of stuff to sell and sort out before we can make a move :-) See, we are planning to move for good so there is a lot to be done and as we have no families here to help us, it all will take time. I`m Polish by the way and my hubby is South African with a dual SA/British citiz, our both daughters were born here in the UK. I`m a stay at home mom at the mo and my hubby is a Controls Engeneer Have you bought your tickets yet? Oh, we are moving to Mandurah, near Perth and you?
jothy Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 Going to Perth too! and have visited Madurah a few times and love it there. Even though we are going on a temp visa we are still thinking that if things work out we wont come back. We have looked into lots of scenarios and there really doesn't seem much point taking a lot of stuff! It costs far too much to get it there and we feel everything (within reason) can be replaced. We both think this will be a fresh start and a fantastic opportunity and want to keep what funds we have for when we get there. Have you been to Australia before?
sebahat Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 no, we haven`t lol but I`ve been to South Africa a few times and I loved it there(apart from the crime of course). The climate in WA is very similar to what I experienced in SA and I`ll be more than happy with it. We are not happy with the UK, especially the schools so I know that our daughters will get better education in Oz. Hope we can book tickets soon. Are you flying direct to Perth or stopping somewhere on the way? We are going to visit my parents-in-law on the way and stay in SA for about 2 weeks.
jothy Posted December 25, 2010 Author Posted December 25, 2010 I am sure you will be very happy when you get there, I think Australia is an amazing country and Western Australia in particular has a great deal to offer! you will love Mandurah I'm certain!
jothy Posted December 25, 2010 Author Posted December 25, 2010 Sorry, missed a bit... I doubt we will be stopping on the way, funds etc! but reccommend singapore and thailand, as well as bali (for beaches)
