Guest map1079 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Hi, i am reasonably new and we are very committed to moving to Oz once i qualify as a nurse (childrens branch) i haven't even started university yet!!! i have a few questions, and wandered if anyone minded answering them for me? Can i come out to Oz, as a newly qualified nurse (are there provisions like the perceptorship year we get in the UK) or do i need to get NHS time under my belt? I have also been told you can start applying just before i qualify, is this true? Any help would be great TIA
Guest The Ropey HOFF Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Sorry - i don't know the answer to this, i will bump it up to the front so hopefully you will get the answer you want, best of luck.
itsmylife Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Its very hard to give you a definite answer, who knows where the visa process will be in 3 or 4 years time. Would you be planning on applying for the visa based on you being a nurse? It would depend on what visa you were going for, a temporary or permanent one. Some newly qualified people have gone out on the 457 temporary visa and have got a graduate position with a period preceptorship, but things are changing so rapidly that there is no guarantee that things will be the same by the time you qualify. In the past you needed to show 12 months experience for the permanent residence visas, but it has all changed so much since I got my visa in February. Some of the girls who have been waiting on the various state plans have found that they need to have 5 or more years experience before they can apply. So it all really depends on your own visa situation to be honest.
ali Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Hi, At the moment there are graduate nurse programmes, but as someone said it's difficult to project their availability for when you qualify Graduate nurse & midwife programs I know that last year, the service I work for filled all their graduate places with newly qualified nurses who had trained in Aus, and they may show some preference to people trained here rather than overseas for this programme. I do know someone who trained a few years ago and for their elective placement they worked in Australia - it may be worth exploring this when you actually start your nuring course if the Uni have links for overseas placements - it would give you a taste of life in Aus. Good luck with the nursing Ali
docboat Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Is there any mileage in applying for nurse training in Australia?
lynnes Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I would look at training here, it might be quicker for you though you will end up with a huge debt at the end of it lol.
Wildrover Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 For WA Perth area dont know about the rest of Oz, Speaking to friends who are newly qualified who have asked say most hospitals (public) need at last one years NHS experience before they will even consider you (thats for 457 visa, PR is very hard to find, unless you go rural/regional). I am not sure about the rest of Oz and Im sure that there are exceptions to what I've said above Good luck with the course Hi, i am reasonably new and we are very committed to moving to Oz once i qualify as a nurse (childrens branch) i haven't even started university yet!!! i have a few questions, and wandered if anyone minded answering them for me?
