Hiya

Where did u stay on arrival into Australia and for how long before you found a proper place to rent?

We're thinking of staying in a cabin at a caravan park or a b&b to begin with.

How long did it take you to find a house in the area that you wanted to rent?

We're looking for a furnished place as we're not bringing our stuff with us.

We're going to Canberra in February, any thoughts or comments of wheer to stay if you have stayed there?

Many Thanks!!

I think most people find somewhere within two or three weeks.

Furnished places are very rare indeed, I think you should look into this more and perhaps you will need to reconsider.

As Pumpkin says, you can find a place normally in 2-3 weeks, so by the time you move in, it might be 4 weeks that you will need to find somewhere on arrival initially.

try looking on www.stayz.com.au for something as well. caravan parks, cabins etc are ideal to start with. Big4 caravan parks have been used by quite a few on arrival to give you something to possibly look at.

Finding longer term furnished accomodation is not impossible, but very limited & I would assume pretty expensive. You might find Canberra having more to offer due to the Govt being based there, and a lot of members staying there during the week, and dissapearing off back home for weekends & holidays.

The normal process for finding rentals (at least here in VIC) is to attend a viewing at the set time on Saturday, put in a bid online by Monday, offer put to landlord and decision by Tuesday or Wednesday subject to reference checks, etc. They will then want you to move in asap assuming the place is already vacant. You are not guaranteed that your offer will be accepted and you will be told (regardless of whether it is true) that there is a lot of competition and you will need to offer more than the asking price. Bear in mind that as a newly arrived migrant with no track record and potentially no steady job you are probably not an attractive prospect for a landlord. Your job will be to persuade the landlord that you are different to other new migrants.

We rented a flat in St Kilda for about 6 weeks and then went to rent in Glen Waverley for another 6 weeks in a house that someone had sold and it had a long settlement so we lived there whilst they waited to settle. Then we bought our first house in Ringwood East and lived there 17 years. In those days there were unmade roads up there and all the kids used to roam about through the bush. Happy days!

Viewings can be every day, and anything that is reasonably good will have a number of applicants hoping to get it.

Why do you have to put a bid in online? If its being offered for $350 p.w thats what they are renting it out for

Hi we stayed in Toowoon bay holiday park on the central coast! Thought we would be there longer than the two weeks we were, due to finding a pet friendly rental, no problems there we secured a rental in the 2nd week!

Is there anyone offering furnished accommodation in the area. Especially any members of this site??

Furnished houses can work out better value than some of the caravan parks.

$130 per night for an "Executive" cabin near us:shocked:

Our nearby furnished rental ( big 3 bed house) $100 per night.

(I'm not plugging our places - we are in a different state):cute:

There might be something on this site below.......
