Hi,

With the recent changes to the Queensland SMP urban planners can now only enter Queensland with a regional state sponsor visa. Couple of questions; what area's of Queensland and what conditions does this type of visa entail? Do I have to go to a regional area once I arrive or can I go where I like, what are the restrictions? I have a cousin who is an Australian citizen in Brisbane willing to sponsor and my wifes sister is on a 4 year business visa? My wife wishes to study once we are in Australia and become a primary teacher would this help?

Regards

I would say you should check this weebsite:

Regional Australia/Low Population Growth Metropolitan Areas - Workers - Visas & Immigration

Unfortunately in QLD the Brisbane metro area and the Gold Coast are non regional areas, so you can't settle there.

You shouldn't forget that the 475 visa isn't a permanent residency visa!

Don't be put off by reginol areas. We are on the list and we can be in Brisbane city or the beaches of the Gold Coast in under an hour. Property is cheap enough to buy without hanging yourself and all the ammenities you could need are within a 15min drive.

Lots of the reginol areas are in the Gold Coast hinterland and are the latest 'urnban plan areas' for QLD, in a few years where we are will be a city. Shops are being added at a rate of knots, estates are growing, hospital planned etc etc defiantely something to consider..

If i remember correctly Maudsland was also on the list which is a beautiful area directly behind Pacific Pines, a massive housing estate made up mainly of ex pats.

I guess what im saying is reginol is not neccessarily as inland and remote as you think.

Your wife's study would help in so much as you would be eligible for a student visa whilst she is at University - I believe that allows work of up to 20 hours per week. James Cook University at the Townsville or Cairns campus could be an option. The cost of studying as an international student (which she would be ) is pretty high - the post graduate course is about $14000 and you would be looking around that 3 times that if she doesn't have a degree she can add the post grad on to. We have to stay regional too - we chose Cairns as it is more cosmopolitan than some of the industrial towns in Queensland - it is hard to find decent work as the economic environment is poor due to the anorexic numbers of tourists here - but worth it just for the life style for us.
