hello

are there any digger drivers or ground workers out there who have moved to oz.having some difficulty in getting my skills recognised by the tra.it seems that because i have no nvq qualifications that i may not be able to apply for any kind of a visa.its a pity because from what i have been told is that digger operators are one of the skills that they are looking for at the moment.if anyone can help me with this i would appreciate it...thanks...mel..

Are you sure digger driver is on the list, I have just checked but didn't see it. What is the occupation code? (I am asking so that I can go and read up on the skills assessment requirements).

hey mel ...unfortunately digger drivers are not on the skills list ....but if u do groundworks aswell then u could possibly be classed as a drainer ...this is how my o/h got in ....although he came in on pathway d [past experience] which is no longer available ....unfortunately if u are like my o/h ....he had 25yrs plus experience but no formal qualifications to speak of ....so without talking to an agent im not sure what route u would follow .....diggers drivers are very much sought after in wa .....but gettin in is the prob .....would defo talk to an agent and look at the drainer option ....good luck

hello mrs keily

i sent all my details off as a drainer and sent as much details as was possible.even sent photographic evidence of my digger and hp agreement but it came up as being unsucessful. it seems unless you have a diploma of some sort or another from a recognised agency then you are only wasting time.my other option is to have a meeting with some of the training agencies and see if there is anything they can do and go through an agent next time.its a pity that they use age 30 as cut off for holiday working visas as most of the young lads that i know who have headed off to oz dont have any diplomas.

had my heart set on heading to the mines cause from what i hear they are earning big money there.plus my eldest son is in perth and had a place to stay.

i,m not giving up yet and will exhaust all my options before i throw the towel in.if you hear of any more info could you let me know.i apreciate you taking the time to respond to my message....kind regards and happy christmas....who knows...maybe i will be having a beer at a barbecue with my son this time next year....cheers....mel...

hey mel ...yes ur correct in saying the mine workers earn good money ...my o/h is currently doing a 2 and 1 roster up north on a machine and they also passed him out driving a truck which he takes turns about on to break the monotony a bit ...im really not sure what route u can take but we used an agent and they were worth their weight in gold ...but we have been here nearly 2 years and the visa process has changed dramatically since we got ours ....hope u find a solution soon as there is plenty work available
