Guest Guest31881 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 If your mom is Australian, have you looked the possibility of Australian citizenship by decent, if eligible you do not need a visa, just an Australian passport look at this help page .. Australian Citizenship – Application process by descent Hope this helps
Guest lukequinn Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 would it be possible for me to get a visa at 17 with parental permission , My grandparents also living in australia which is were i would be staying hoping that helps
Pumpkin Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 What type of visa? Do you mean for a holiday? You cannot just go and live in Australia even if you do have your parents permission without an appropriate visa.

I have just answered your other thread, you did not mention you have an Australian mother on there. Is she born an Australian? If so then I would assume you are also Australian and don't need any visa.
Guest lukequinn Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 yes i understand everything i was just cutting a long story short , and it was a 6 month working visa
Pumpkin Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 yes i understand everything i was just cutting a long story short , and it was a 6 month working visa Ok well you can't get one of thsoe because you have to be 18. In any case, you mentioned you have an Australian mother on another thread, if that is the case, you probably don't need a visa at all.
ali Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I've merged your threads as they were asking the same thing - best to concentrate the replies to the same place. Ali

Pumpkin Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 well ali do you know if i would be able to get a visa that would allow me to work , granda been in australia for 20+ years would this help in any way Luke, before you worry about visas, can you please clarify the situation with your mother. You said she is Australian, if so you probably don't need a visa. That is the third time I have typed that now ... there won't be a fourth time. If you are not going to respond to people's questions we can't help you.
Guest lukequinn Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 sorry i did'nt even notice you had commented back , i think i may have have made a mistake in the post your referring to , she lived in australia born in the uk though
ali Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 well ali do you know if i would be able to get a visa that would allow me to work , granda been in australia for 20+ years would this help in any way I suggest you read the replies given on this thread Luke because you're being given an option to explore if your mother is indeed an Australian - you will be able to apply to be a citizen yourself which means you won't need a visa as you'll be able to apply for a passport. Someone has posted a link to that information for you.
Guest lukequinn Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 well think i clarified that situation just there , im guessing my grandparents are australian citzens with them being there 25 years so would that count for anything or is it parents only
Ozmaniac Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 If your mother lived in Australia and if her parents were there for 25 years, it's possible that your mother could be an Australian citizen by descent or even by naturalisation if her parents moved to Australia after she was born. If your mother is an Australian citizen by descent and if she lived in Australia for at least 2 years, or if she is an Australian citizen by naturalisation then you can apply to be an Australian citizen by descent and then all you would need is an Australian passport if you want to live and work in Australia. Please tell us if your grandparents were Australian citizens when your mother was born. If they were and if she was born in the UK, her parents would have needed to apply for Australian citizenship by descent on her behalf as it doesn't happen automatically. Did they do that? Otherwise, please tell us if your grandparents AND your mother moved to Australia and became citizens. The bottom line is that we need to know if your mother is an Australian citizen. We can't help you with 'I'm guessing' and we can't help with incomplete information. Set it all out for us and you'll get an answer you can rely on. If you're not eligible for citizenship and an Australian passport, you must wait until you have turned 18 and can apply for a Working Holiday visa. There is no other way you can work in Australia - having grandparents there makes no difference.
