Guest craighannay Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 myself and my partner are flying out to wa - albany in early march 2011 what do we do about accomodation for the first few days/weeks we only have 2 options 1) pay a caravan park $700/800 a week 2) sort out a rental 3/6 months lease - $250 / $350 per week and spend the first day scratting round like headless chickens buying beds, cutlery, linen etc etc before we move in to an empty house what do other people do, how do they cope or arrnage things at first we have the time till we get there to arrange for a rental home before we fly,but that wont buy us 3 beds the day we arrive in perth - we then have a 4 and a half to 5 hr drive with 4 suitcases to albany then straight to the local bed shop , as ikea is only in perth yes we could stay in perth a few nights but then the hire car turns into a van to transport the new 3 beds along with 2 kids my partner and myself any advise would be great claire
rammygirl Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Most people rent furnished holiday type lets for a few weeks - you can usually negotiate a better rate for longer stays and by not having breakfast supplied or laundry done for you (there should be a washer/dryer anyway. We managed to arrange a longer term unfurnished let before we went as we had a close friend view for us in Oz and we rented some furniture etc (down to the teaspoons basically a house pack) till ours arrived in the container. This actually worked out cheaper than a furnished short term let. It is quite hard to sort a longer term let though, and unless you know the area well I wouldn't risk it as many are 1 year min lease. Also agents like you to see it first or at least have someone view for you - anyway the agent would rather let to a dead cert who is actually there etc.
Quoll Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Albany Accommodation - Holiday House & Apartment Rentals - Stayz is a good start for a holiday rental as is Wotif.com: Hotels, Accommodation, Motels, Serviced Apartments, B&B - Online hotel bookings with instant confirmation You probably want to get somewhere for a few weeks to give you time to find a longer term rental. But it will be expensive, holiday rentals always cost far more than your budget for a regular long term place. You should be able to find a motel for a night in Perth.
Pumpkin Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Most people take a holiday let for a few weeks and find the permanent place during this time. Once in the permanent place they spend a few weeks sleeping on airbeds and perhaps by some outdoor furniture and use it inside until the container arrives.
