i am looking for a short term furnished let in albany and would be prepared to stay 3-6 months

i am looking for a 3 bed home for me and my family (3 adults and one small child) i search the net every night but nothing comes up as furnished, i dont want to pay daft prices staying in a caravan for 3 months at 150/170 dollars a night for 4,when i can rent a holiday home or equivelant for much less, but it does have to be furnished

i simply dont want the hassel of buying 3 beds the second i land to move into an unfurnished home, i would like to do the buying as and when the time is right, and the luxury of just moving straight in and being able to live is very appealing

anyone else had this thought or problem, pls let me know, we are very worried as we cannot find furnished lets through the net searches

regards

Hi Craig

Have you looked at www.stayz.com you should find lots of furnished places on there.

Good Luck

hi

yes we did find this stayz at one point but it worked out 7/800 dollars a week for all 4 of us, rather than 250/350 dollars on a rental property, but there is the garantee of a stay until we find something which is ok for a longer term

the cost would be double per week to us should we not find a rental before we arrive, just trying to find the cheapest place to stay without staying in a tent

thanks for the advise anyhow

regards

Most furnished short stay rentals are around $700-$900 pr week. Your utility costs are included, and you are not tied into a contract. You can ask for a discount if you plan to stay a few weeks as most owners will be happy to give one.

Alternatives are Motel / Hotel rooms ,although these to work out quite pricey or a cabin at a cabin park, lots of familys use the cabins for their first 4 weeks until they can find and secure a longer term let, you can normally get a cheaper rate for staying the 4 weeks.

Hope this helps

thats a very good point, and i never thought about the bills lol, food for thought it may not work out too dear after all, its very annoying because back in 1998 we could stay in a caravan (not to posh mind you) for $25 a night in a camp site , which would be good enough to have a look around - but now WOW the prices are ridiculas

13 years later and a crap pound exchange and its very upsetting

Yeah prices have gone up lots this last few years, areas will have changed alot too since you were last here.At least you will have a good idea of where to go for what, lol.

As for the exchange rate ,i'd be bringing as little possible right now and seeing what happens.

+1

If you are looking to book for a 3-6 month period, you might be able to negotiate a better price, but I think Cal's estimates are pretty acurate.

Most new arrivals tend to find something within the first 4 weeks, so you dont have to stay in furnished that long. We took 7 weeks ourselves, but we were looking to buy straight away, and at the time the market was very tight in the area we were looking, but thats not so much the case at the moment. (the only problem is that the exchange is pants )

Most rental periods for unfurnished are 12 months, although some offer 6 months, but if you do need to break lease because you have found something better or are looking to buy, it isnt a major problem to break lease. It might cost a few hundred dollars to have it advertised and possibly a week or so if its left empty, but rentals get re-let pretty easily at the moment.
