Guest Shreen Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Thanks everyone! Have not had much free time but I have a quick 5 mins for a quick update. Just want to say I have no regrets what so ever and moving to Australia was the best thing I ever did. I appreciate Australia more than ever now and can't wait to get back there. It is really lovely seeing my family and friends but I do not miss the place at all. Will do a full update soon. Hope you all had a lovely xmas and new year!
Guest chris955 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Glad to hear it is going well, nowhere is for everyone, we all want different things out of life. At least the trip has made up your mind for you as mine did.
Guest Shreen Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I am back in Sydney now and thought it was about time to give a full update of my trip back to the UK. Going back has reconfirmed my decision that Sydney is definitely the place I want to be at this point in my life and I have no regrets about the move. I have to say that it was amazing seeing family and friends (not all friends mind, some weren’t even bothered about seeing us) and it has been even tougher this time saying goodbye and almost felt as if I went 10 steps back on our journey. In my opinion and this is just based on where we are from (Staines) most people seemed very down and miserable, things were pretty bad when we left but seemed even worse, I am sure the dark mornings and exceptionally cold weather were probably a factor on this. I have to say food is a lot cheaper in the UK, even Marks and Spencer’s seemed a lot cheaper but I found other things like travel extortionate compared to Sydney. As an example my one day travel card to London was £20 and my weekly bus ticket to work is $16 so it is on a par, something more expensive, some things cheaper which I already knew. The one thing I did notice was how busy London was compared to Sydney and Sydney is busy! The roads also seemed really narrow! There is not really much else to say then I guess it all depends on what you want and need and everyone is different. I can definitely see how the pull of friends, family and familiarity can send you packing to the UK as this is the hardest thing for me, I selfishly almost wish I had not gone back just so I did not have to say goodbye again. Then again, I also know how lucky we were to have a trip back and spend quality time which not everyone has the opportunity to do. Sorry, I don’t really have much else to say but I hope this post is helpful to some! xx
fleabo Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I guess you don't have all the set-up activity to keep you buzzing when you arrive back in Sydney like you may have had when you first arrived. That is a really good point worth remembering. And yes - I agree - Sydney public transport is cheap. Good luck with the next few weeks, hard as they may be!
