Upper age limit for a 457 visa

My wife wants me to look into getting her mum and dad over through our company. Is there an upper age limit on a 457 visa?

I guess Jersey Couple will have to pay much more money for a PR VISA if the 457 VISA is not valid.

The simple answer is no, but there are some restrictions. The temporary subclass 457 visa has no age restriction, but policy would require a close examination of any applicant over 55 years of age. Under the permanent sponsorship category of visas, 45 is the age limit, UNLESS exceptional circumstances apply. There are a number of circumstances that are considered exceptional, particularly if the nominated occupation is on the Migration Occupation in Demand List. Applicants aged 60 years or over are unlikely to be approved.

I would suggest contacting a reputable agent, because you as the sponsor would also need to meet certain criteria.

No, but older applicants will need to meet stricter health requirements.

Even if they can get a 457 visa, that can only ever lead to permanent residence if they qualify for a permanent visa and that would mean sponsorship for an 856 ENS visa which has an age limit AND a requirement for an occupation on the ENSOL. It's possible that the upper limits for 121/856 age exemptions may move after 1 July 2011 when theage limit for GSM visas changes from 45 to 50, but there will still be a limit at some level.

If they ever have a chance of qualifying for a permanent visa, it would surely be better to start with that rather than a 457. Otherwise, it's nothing more than a short term approach to a long term problem.
